Carlson, the first dean of Nevada Southern, the School of Education was established in 1957. A decade later it became the College of Education under Founding Dean Anthony Saville, offering programs in elementary, secondary, and vocational education and administration. In 1964, the first graduating class of 25 received bachelor's degrees; three years later, nine students received the first master's

UNLV/CSUN Preschool Director Chelsie Shurtleff said, "The staff margins are razor-thin; we have to keep the lights on and buy the snacks we feed the children. So the overhead for a center-based program is extremely expensive, and unfortunately, that cost is passed on to families. "

AAQEP Third-Party Comment 06/10/2026

The College of Education is hosting an initial accreditation visit by the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP). In preparation for the visit, the AAQEP Quality Review Team is soliciting public comment about the quality of educator preparation we provide, based on AAQEP’s 2025 expectations framework. All comments must be submitted by August 24, 2026.

AAQEP Third-Party Comment AAQEP seeks third-party comment about the quality of educator preparation at programs with approaching site visits.
