Our IREC team had an amazing week at comp! From team presentations to inspections, rocket testing, and launch prep, we had an amazing opportunity to display our hard work amongst some of the greatest schools from around the world.
Weather conditions delayed launch, but we were able to get our rocket onto the pad Saturday afternoon. After a successful launch, we unfortunately lost GPS communication and with limited time, we were unable to recover our rocket. We are so proud of everyone on our IREC team for the countless hours of hard work that went into making this happen, and we are so grateful to everyone who has supported us. Although things didn’t turn out exactly as we had hoped, this competition gave our team an incredibly valuable learning experience as we continue to improve for the future.

🚀 MEMBER SPOTLIGHTS // SUMMER 2026
Join us in celebrating several of our SEDS UNLV members and the incredible internship opportunities they’ll be pursuing this summer.
We are featuring Ty Huel and Xavier Miranda, who will both be joining NASA internships this summer; Dominic Prisneac who will be joining Blue Origin as a Fluid Systems & Propulsion Engineer; Dominik Toth who will be joining Anduril Industries as an Electro-Mechanical Engineer, Alexis Martinez and Kai Yeung who will be joining NV-Energy, and Alberto Rendon who will be joining Haas Automation!
These people have put in many hours from research to hands-on work in SEDS which helped them get these incredible opportunities! We’re so excited to see everything they’re going to accomplish this summer and proud to have them representing SEDS UNLV.
SEDS UNLV gives you the chance to gain real engineering experience working on projects that are 1:1 to the aerospace industry right here on campus! This is the kind of experience that landed these incredible people the opportunity for these internships. Click on the link in our bio to start your journey with us!

Our latest test launch at Jean on March 21st hit around 9,600ft, just shy of our 10k target, with apogee separation and successful drogue deployment! Both flight computers fired apogee charges successfully.
Main chute failed to deploy at 1,500 ft, with both charges failing to trigger main deployment. To some it may seem like a failure, but to us it’s an opportunity to refine and come back stronger than ever. Test launching allows us to w**d out issues like this so our competition launch goes smoothly!
“Our team was more organized and prepared than ever before… I’m very confident heading into IREC.” - Ty Huel [IREC PM]
So proud of everyone involved who put in the hours and hard work in order to make this possible!
