Get ready for the 2027 NHD theme, Innovation in History: Impact, Influence, Change, at a free one-day training built for teachers who have already brought NHD into their classrooms.

You'll explore the theme, build a strong thesis, learn the power of revision, get a ready-to-use teacher toolkit, and practice peer coaching. Participants receive $300 in classroom supplies and CE credits, and breakfast and lunch are provided.

Tomorrow is Constitution Day.

Join us at 5:00 p.m. at the Reno + Sparks Chamber for In the Room Where It Happened: an evening of service and conversation about where the Constitution came from and what it asks of us now.

We start with hands-on service stations honoring the first responders who fought this summer's fires and the veterans in our community. Then a panel with Nevada Supreme Court Chief Justice Douglas Herndon, Reno City Attorney Elect Zelalem Bogale, and constitutional scholar Tom Powell.

Twenty-five years ago today, the country stopped. And then, almost immediately, people started moving toward each other.

Lines of volunteers stretched around blood banks. Restaurants fed rescue workers for free. Strangers opened their homes to stranded travelers. Neighbors who had never spoken checked on each other, and kept checking for weeks.

That instinct to show up for the people around you is what civic engagement actually looks like. Not a class, not a checkbox, but a habit: knowing your neighbors, noticing who needs help, and doing something about it.

At NVCCE, that's what we hope every Nevada student carries out of the classroom. Not just how government works, but why community does.

Today we remember those we lost. We honor them best by being the kind of neighbors that day showed we can be.

"Mr. President — how long must women wait for liberty?"

They picketed the White House for two and a half years, holding signs like this one. Many were arrested.

On this day in 1920, Tennessee became the 36th state to ratify the 19th Amendment. The last vote, a single vote cast by a 24-year-old state legislator who'd just gotten a letter from his mother.

Democracy is rarely as inevitable as it looks in hindsight. Today we celebrate that every voice matters.

DonorsChoose is launching Sept. 1, 2026! Thanks to the leadership of Senator Marilyn Dondero-Loop, the Nevada Legislature has allocated $7.5 million for the 2026-2027 school year to champion the efforts of educators. With this investment, more than 11,000 Nevada educators will receive up to $500 in new classroom resources.

If you are a Nevada public school educator, you will receive an email on Sept. 1, 2026, with the new 2026 link and instructions on how to submit your application for funding. Links from previous years will not be functional or accepted for 2026 applications.

Great opportunity for high school students

Applications for the Nevada Superintendent’s Advisory Group on Education (NV SAGE) are open July 15 – Aug. 15, 2026.

This online group gives 10th and 11th grade students a direct voice to advise the Superintendent on state education policies for a 1-year term. Members can earn up to 15 community service hours. No perfect GPA or resume required - just a desire to speak up for students.
