So true!

Keep trying ...

People with dyslexia possess a remarkable determination that sets them apart. Their journey is often filled with unique challenges that require creativity, resilience, and an unwavering will to succeed.

Each word read, each sentence written, is a testament to their ability to overcome obstacles and find new ways to thrive. Instead of being held back by difficulties, individuals with dyslexia harness their struggles as stepping stones, turning what others might see as limitations into opportunities for growth.

Their persistence in mastering skills that may not come easily is a reflection of their inner strength and resolve to achieve their goals. This determination often extends beyond academics, shaping how people with dyslexia approach life as a whole. They are innovative problem-solvers, finding creative methods to navigate the world and excel in their passions.

Whether it's inventing new ways to learn, advocating for themselves, or excelling in a field that highlights their strengths, their drive to persevere is truly inspiring.

Is your student in need of a Reading or Dyslexia Tutor?

I am a Reading and Dyslexia Interventionist trained in the Orton-Gillingham (OG) based Barton Reading and Spelling System. I am Master Certified in Barton.

Barton is Orton-Gillingham. There are several programs that are Orton-Gillinham based.

The Barton Reading and Spelling System is a Structured Literacy Program that prepares students for high school sciences and social studies. The higher levels of Barton are considered college-prep level reading and comprehension.

Due to all the years I have been using the Barton System (19!), I've gotten to know it very well. This makes it easy for me to take a student who started a reading intervention in the past and jump into the Barton System to fill in any gaps in reading or spelling and make a plan to finish teaching the rules of reading.

This Structured Literacy method will help students understand why words are spelled a certain way and increase their comprehension.

Many of my students come for tutoring in upper elementary school, middle school, and high school. I teach kids from 8 to adults. I work with students who are in public, private, and homeschool learning environments.

I homeschooled my four dyslexic children for 19 years. I am homeschool friendly.

Most of my students have a diagnosis of dyslexia or at least suspect dyslexia. Anyone who has at least three of the warning signs of dyslexia and is struggling with SPELLING should investigate getting help.

I tutor online all over the United States.

I have experience with ADHD, AUTISM, Anxiety, Depression, etc.

Feel free to contact me ([email protected]) or schedule a FREE 20-minute Consultation.

Illiteracy And Crime

Bright Solutions for Dyslexia is pleased to announce that, under the First Step Act, the U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), has adopted the Barton Reading & Spelling System as its reading intervention program across all 122 institutions nationwide.

Research indicates a strong connection between illiteracy and criminal behavior. The U.S. Department of Justice states, “The link between academic failure and delinquency, violence, and crime is welded to reading failure.”

According to the National Adult Literacy Survey, 70% of the U.S. prison population cannot read above a fourth-grade level, “meaning they lack the reading skills required to navigate many everyday tasks or hold down anything but lower (paying) jobs.”

As of November 4, 2023, 29% of the designated adults in custody were enrolled in one or more education/recreation programs. The BOP’s Office of Research has found that participation in education programs leads to a 16% reduction in recidivism.

Data also supports the following:
• Individuals without sufficient income from work are the most likely to commit crimes.
• Dyslexia is the leading cause of reading failure and school dropouts in our nation.
• 48% of adults in custody have dyslexia.
• 85% of offenders in the juvenile court system are functionally illiterate.
• High school dropouts are 5 times more likely to go to prison than high school graduates.

Dyslexia and Anxiety

Many students with dyslexia develop an anxiety disorder -- due to their academic struggles, public humiliation when forced to read out loud in class, and/or being teased or bullied by classmates.

Parents, watch for these warning signs of anxiety. If your child has many of them, you must take steps to reduce their anxiety.

Thank you, Cheri Rae of DyslexiaLand, for sharing this graphic.

Yes! This is so important!

Thank you, Georgia Ryan - Dyslexic Warrior, for this great graphic.

It is critical that your child knows that while dyslexia makes reading, writing, and spelling hard, it is also why your child is so talented in other areas.
