A true relationship is two imperfect people refusing to give up on each other. Everyday Power

Today is my anniversary of 30 years. We met when we were young, but not that young, and ready to settle down and do the family and home thing.

It was great. We got the house, we had the kid. We had fun being parents and doing the Mom and Dad thing.

Somewhere along the lines, we got a little lost. He is very Virgo and down to Earth, I am very, very Pisces and such a watery dreamer. He is very realistic. I am a very fairy mermaid. We had a tough time finding togetherness.

And through it all, we always loved each other very much. Always cared, always took care of each other when we needed it. Always…..a deep unwavering connection that got lost in the midst of the everyday fog.

Then one magical moment, in Sedona I might add, down by the water's edge, we talked. And we talked and we cried and talked. It all came back together. The Earthy Virgo dipped his toes into the water and the Watery Pisces rode the wave to the sand.

He comes out dancing more often and she keeps one foot on the ground. They started to merge back together like the ebb and flow of the waves on the beach. And now they flow in sync.

Is it always perfect? No… Is it always fun? No again. He will bury his head in the sand and she will hide beneath the falls. But there is always love, connection, caring, and an effort to always try to do better. We dance, we play, we fight, we laugh, we get frustrated and we love. It is the way (yes a Mandalorian reference).

Happy Anniversary!!! I love you to the moon and back.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Finding a work/life balance is good for both your physical and mental health. Many times, heavy job responsibilities steal that balance away.

When that happens, both our work and home life can suffer unwanted consequences.

So, how can you achieve that balance and still excel at your job? Use these strategies to create the work-life balance you seek:

1. Avoid checking your work emails outside of work. While at work, you’ll probably check your work emails often to ensure that any meetings and deadlines are met. However, checking them when you’re off work allows your work life to encroach on your home life. Set boundaries regarding emails so that you can take care of work communications only while at work.

2. Learn to say no. You may love your job, but it’s usually unnecessary to be available 24/7. We all need a break occasionally, and there is nothing wrong with saying no. Especially outside of your allotted work hours.

3. Work smarter, not harder. Instead of working all hours of the day, with very little rest, work smarter. You’ll actually get more done in a shorter period of time. Prioritize important tasks and do these tasks first each day. This way, the most important things always get done. Avoid unproductive activities, such as unstructured meetings or constantly checking your social media accounts.

4. Leave work at work. This may be hard, and may not always be possible, but when you clock off for the day, make a mental note that work has finished. Perhaps take a moment to acknowledge that work has finished by stopping and taking a breath before your commute home. The reason for this is to ensure that you are not bringing the work and any stress associated with it home.

5. You don’t need to be perfect. Have you ever been on your way out, only to turn back around because you thought of a way to make a report or task perfect? Sometimes, it pays to remind yourself that you and your work are good enough.

6. Focus on things outside work. For some of us, our work is our life, but what happens if one day we lose our job? Where does that leave us? It may be a scary thought, but it’s important to have a life outside work. Develop some hobbies that interest you. Spending time doing something that you love reduces stress and energizes you while relaxing and uplifting your mood. Add some “happy time” to your life!

7. Make your own rules. There has been a shift in work attitudes, especially among younger workers. More people - even bosses - are recognizing the value of work-life balance. Come up with your own ideas that will help you separate your work from your home life and run them by your boss. They might just agree!

Finding a balance between work and your home life can be difficult, but it’s well worth the effort!

Are there things you would like to experience that you are too afraid to try? Or maybe there are opportunities that pass you by because of fear or other self-talk that is preventing you from getting out there?

According to Jessica Zweig, these are our “edges” The boundaries that we have created that we struggle to go past.

There is growth in the uncomfortable. Unfortunately, we stay in our comfort zone too often.

I don’t care for flying anymore so my travels are by car. Someone mentioned that they are afraid to learn a new language. Another person doesn’t like to talk about herself for fear they may see something they don’t like.

We all have our “edges” so how can we work with them and maybe push them out a bit?

If worldwide travel is not your thing (or my thing), immerse yourself in a culture you enjoy. Take classes, learn a language, visit a restaurant, and try cultural activities. Personally, my friend tries to get me on a plane to Japan (not happening), but, I have studied Japanese Tea Ceremony with her for the last 20 years, I am learning Japanese, and I love to go to Little Toyko in Los Angeles among other cultural-related activities.

If you want some self-growth but are not ready to talk to a coach or counselor, start journaling your thoughts. You don’t have to share them, but maybe you will get some insight and work through the tough stuff.

There are a number of things you can do that are within your comfort zone but might get you close to your edge. Classes, workshops, community activities, book clubs, or try resetting with some quiet time like meditation, breathwork, or disconnecting from social media. Find where your comfort zone meets your stress and work with creating some space and calm.

“Change your vibration, change your life, and find your own edge. Do what makes you feel good.” Jessica Zweig.

Fun Friday: Saturday, April 22nd is Earth Day and it is my favorite holiday. I love to spend time in my garden, as well as doing my part in recycling, reusing, and reducing waste. One of my favorite ways is to repurpose old clothes and make new things. I love to sew and when something is not wearable, I salvage what I can with buttons and material and turn them into other things. Quilts, tote bags, and plate cozies, are just a few things I have made. What are your favorite ways to celebrate Earth Day and do your part for the planet?

We are now in the season of Aries and Thursday, April 20th is the New Moon and Solar Eclipse.

What does that mean for us? Aries is ruled by the Sun. So, if you are making any changes in your life, it is the time to tap into that fire and be bold.

Let’s take the goals you considered from last week. How are you doing with that? Is it going awesome? Great, then continue working on them. But if you are struggling, now is the time to look at them again and take them on with confidence and courage.

The Solar Eclipse is also healing. It will shine a light on what you need to let go of. Consider all the things that are not serving your greater good. Shine that beautiful, sunny light on them and release them with the courage of the Aries moon.

So soak in that wonderful, fiery Aries sunshine and be bold, be brave, be confident, and be truly you.
