What a great State of the City address this afternoon! It was wonderful to hear about all the great things happening in the City. As Mayor Goynes-Brown mentioned, is looking forward to partnering with the City as it works on building a “complete city.”

Filled with gratitude today as the leadership team embarked on a bus tour of North Las Vegas, an intentional choice to go out and gain a better understanding of the community so many of our students call home.
At C.C Ronnow Elementary we had the opportunity to observe the important work being done with dual language learning. Nevada State is proud to be the only institution in the state that offers a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a concentration in bilingual education. We also loved seeing three Nevada State alumni teaching at Ronnow as part of .
We got to collaborate with our colleagues and discuss how we can continue working together to strengthen the pipeline of students who complete an associate’s degree and continue on to Nevada State.
And we were fortunate to end the day at the meeting with Mayor Goynes-Brown.
I know we all returned to campus energized for the work that lies ahead!

This morning I had the privilege of delivering my fourth State of the University address as President of Nevada State University. In reviewing the accomplishment of 2024 and looking ahead to 2025, I continue to be amazed by the students, faculty, and staff of the Nevada State community. We are well-positioned for the future because, as I reiterated during my speech, Our Mission is Bigger than the Moment.

Earlier today I welcomed my colleagues from UNLV, College of Southern Nevada, and Desert Research Institute to Nevada State University for the 2024 Presidents Roundtable moderated by Jon Ralston of the The Nevada Independent.
This was an opportunity for us to reflect on how the results of the 2024 election might impact higher education, assess the current higher education landscape in Nevada, and discuss the work that needs to be done. I was grateful for the opportunity to have such an important and thoughtful conversation.
