TEACH-IN: Honoring Birthing Bodies
Join us for an evening that will educate and expand on what is known about birthing, birthing healthcare access for Black & Brown folx, and birthing while Trans.

We will be joined by three practicing Doulas and community advocates: Tiara Flynn, Cristina Hernandez, and Jacinta Wood.

Cristina Hernandez (ella/she/her), was born and raised in Las Vegas. She graduated from UNLV with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2005, graduate certificate in Women's Studies in 2012, and in 2020 received her Master’s degree in Public Health. Her professional paper topic was on le***an and trans men’s pregnancy, birth experience, and birth outcomes based on provider (i.e. OB/GYN, Midwife, and Nurse Practitioner) and setting (i.e. hospital, home, and birth center). She has been a doula since 2017, a certified childbirth educator since 2018, and certified as a full spectrum doula via Birthing Advocacy Doula Trainings (BADT).

As a doula she believes birth is transformative and ceremonial. Informed consent, body autonomy, trauma-informed, and centering clients are essential values within her work and research.

Tiara was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. She has been volunteering and workingsince she was a child when she realized her passion for public service.

From her birth experiences and working with a holistic birth center in Miami, Tiara started helping family and close friends with their birth planning as their “unofficial” doula. She committed to and completed her full spectrum doula training with Birth Advocacy Doula Trainings (BADT). BADT training courses are “socially conscious, culturally appropriate, diverse, and action-oriented.”

Jacinta (they/she) is jersey-born, Vegas raised. She found her passion and purpose in holding space for people in their tender life moments.

They wear many hats professionally as a massage therapist, a doula, and midwifery student but are always at their core a healer. Jacinta currently uses her voice in community care initiatives that center whole-body and whole-family wellness for Black, Indigenous, and People of the Global Majority

Be our valentine 💕this year by supporting initiatives led by during

Guided by Nevada State College’s commitment to inclusion and social justice, the Office of Community, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion uses an equity-centered lens to support people from historically marginalized communities on campus and across Southern Nevada. Our mission is to support a culture in which all students, faculty, and staff can thrive and succeed at Nevada State College. We actively work to center the intersectional experiences and expertise of People of Color, Immigrants, and LGBTQIA2+ folks to design culturally responsive programs and initiatives that empower community members to be change agents.

Through collaborations with campus offices and community partners, we were able to offer 28 opportunities for students, staff, and faculty to engage in equity, inclusion, or social justice-oriented work in Fall 2022. We brought guest speakers, artists, & activists to campus to share their expertise & knowledge with our community.

By supporting CEDI, you are helping us to grow our impact to empower and support students across our campus, thank you!
