How to deal with stereo type questions?
Problem:
"Americans are friendly but fake, they don't really want to be friends with me."
3 Insights:
1. They might not be looking for new friends because they can’t make time for you after they take care of their priorities- work/study, families, old friends, gym...
2. They are friendly because it is a good courtesy and most of them ARE genuinely kind, helpful and caring. Not because they are fake. You misunderstood their good manners as they want to be friends with you.
3. Try not to generalise all of "them Americans". You haven't had enough chances to know more of them yet.
3 Actions:
1. Take initiative. Come up with fun plans with them. They might be too busy for it but if you never ask, you never know.
2. Tell them straight forward “I am looking to make new friends”. If they do not respond positively, then you know they are not up for it.
3. Go to the occasions where people go with the purpose of making friends, or make friends with people who are new in town and need friends.
