Exploring the heart of geology! Our field geology class had an amazing tour of the Lhoist limestone and dolomite mine, guided by one of our talented Environmental Management grads. A great hands-on learning experience in the field!

BAS - Environmental Conservation students spent the night east of Kingman, Arizona, conducting small mammal trapping! π They successfully captured five different species while being serenaded by coyotes and great-horned owls under the desert sky. ππ¦

BIO 400 students had some exciting encounters during their fieldwork, finding a very friendly baby gopher snake and catching a Uinta chipmunk during small mammal surveys! ππΏοΈ To learn about population studies, they even practiced capture-mark-recapture techniques with plush bunnies!

Summer 2025 Field School (BIOL 400) took place at Parashant National Monument near the North Rim of the Grand Canyon! Students gained hands-on experience with GPS units, compasses, radio telemetry, game cameras, and biodiversity surveys. The highlight? Capturing a mountain lion on one of the cameras!

BAS-EC students teamed up with SNWA to run a triple-high bat net, helping monitor local bat populations. Every bat was safely swabbed to check for white-nose syndrome β and great news: Nevada is still clear! π¦
