FYI, the Collective Bargaining Agreement, although some are saying that it didn’t put kids first, had nothing within its provisions about kids. The CBA was solely about the protection of all staff, and its relationship with administrators, including the school board.

Last evening, the St. John the Baptist Parish Public School Board, under the leadership of Superintendent Dr. Cleo Perry and Debbie Schum, voted not to extend the Collective Bargaining Agreement with SJAE and the district’s employees. This longstanding contract, in place for nearly forty years, has served as the backbone of educator relations with the administration. Many in the community view this decision as a setback for staff and the broader community.

Motion to reject contract extension was made by outgoing District 5 Member Sherry DeFrancesch and District 1 Board Member
Charo Holden. All members, with the exception of members District 2
Albert "Ali" Burl III and District 4
Raydel Morris, voted to not extend and to allow the CBA to expire June 30th. In a follow-up vote, Member Ali Burl was the only one to vote against allowing the contract to expire.
