As we honor Memorial Day, GrowthMindset encourages our community to never forget the powerful role African Americans played in the origins of this day of remembrance.

Following the Civil War, formerly enslaved African Americans helped recover and bury fallen soldiers with dignity and respect. They dug trenches, provided proper burials, planted flowers upon graves, and honored the dead through song, prayer, and celebration of life. These acts of humanity and reverence helped lay the foundation for what we now recognize as Memorial Day.

Today, we honor all men and women who served and sacrificed for our nation. May we continue to remember the history, the courage, and the lives that made freedom.

Black History Month is a time to honor the past, celebrate progress, and inspire the future. Founded by Carter G. Woodson in 1926, it was created to recognize the achievements and contributions of Black Americans often left out of history books. Leaders like Frederick Douglass fought for education and equality, proving that knowledge is the key to liberation.
