October is breast cancer awareness month. Breast cancer accounts for about 30% of cancer diagnosis in women and 1 in 8 women will at some point in their life develop breast cancer. Mortality rates of breast cancer have been decreasing with the improvement of treatments and early detection. It is important to share information on detection and to continue to help and fundraise so that we can one day live in a cancer free world.

College Against Cancer is hosting a Luminaria Ceremony this Friday at 7:30 on Hartman Green. The ceremony will also be available live on Instagram. Typically following a Relay for Life event, the Luminaria Ceremony is meant to honor those who have lost their lives to cancer, provide hope and solidarity for those battling cancer, and celebrate survivors and their stories of overcoming the disease. Participants may choose to decorate a paper lantern, with a message or image of their choosing, that will be lit at the ceremony. Luminaria bags are $1!!
