Our TREK classes are partnering with EFR to bring bully-prevention lessons to our 5th and 6th grade students! 💬🛡️

Miss Ava will be joining us for the next five weeks to teach skills like recognizing bullying, standing up safely, building empathy, and being an upstander in our school community.

We’re excited for this partnership and grateful for the opportunity to help our Cardinals grow stronger together. ❤️🐦

📣 Exciting Update! 📣

As many of you know, I’ve had the joy of serving the amazing students, staff, and families at Emerson Hough Elementary. It’s been an incredible chapter filled with growth, relationships, and unforgettable moments. 💙

This upcoming school year, I’ll be transitioning into a new role as the school counselor at Berg Middle School – 5th & 6th Grade! While it’s hard to say goodbye to the Emerson Hough community, I’m excited to continue supporting students as they grow and take on new challenges in their next steps.

With this change, this page will now be renamed:

The last day of school is always a whirlwind of emotions.

There’s laughter in the halls, excitement in the air, and a few teary hugs mixed in. Teachers are packing up, kids are hauling home backpacks full of artwork and memories, and the building slowly shifts from chaos to quiet.

It’s hard to describe the feeling of watching your students walk out those doors one last time for the year—especially the ones you’ve seen grow so much, overcome big challenges, or just brighten your day with a wave in the hallway.

🎓✨ Full Circle Moment! ✨🎓

Today, our school was filled with joy, cheers, and a few happy tears as we welcomed graduating seniors back to where it all began. 👏

Our elementary students lined the sidewalk to celebrate the Class of 2025 during their Senior Walk — giving high fives, holding up signs, and looking up in awe at the big kids who once sat in their very same classrooms.

It’s a reminder of how quickly time flies and how every early lesson, kind word, and small success adds up to something big. 💙📚

To our seniors: We are SO proud of you. Once a Cardinal, always a Cardinal!

🎉 Emerson Hough 2nd Graders are Cardinal Tough and Kindhearted! 👏

We are thrilled to share the incredible growth our 2nd-grade students have shown after completing the Two By Two Character Development this spring!

Throughout the program, students explored and practiced the core values of Kindness, Responsibility, Empathy, Respect, and Citizenship—and their progress has been truly inspiring.

From January to April, our students showed remarkable growth:

💛 Empathy increased by an amazing 57% —showing how much they've learned about understanding and caring for others.

🌟 Citizenship grew by 19.58%, as students became more aware of their role in the classroom and community.

😊 Students scored an impressive 97% in Kindness and 99% in Respect—a clear reflection of their everyday actions and strong character.

We couldn’t be more proud of these young leaders. Their hearts are as strong as their minds—Emerson Hough students truly are Cardinal Tough and Kindhearted!

Our amazing first graders have been working hard on their social skills, and last week, these students earned certificates for mastering asking permission! 🙌🏼👏🏼

Learning to ask before borrowing, joining in, or making a request is an important skill that helps build respect and positive relationships. We are so proud of their progress and can’t wait to see them continue to grow!

Marshall and Delta, along with the Jasper County Sheriff's Office, Iowa Office, Iowa stopped by to teach students all about dog safety.
