Wednesday was the final day of Minnesota State Golf Tournament. Jorga Brown definitely went into “JFB Mode”. If anyone would have taken me up on my wager yesterday about her guaranteed score today, I would have won easily. Fin Batalden just couldn’t duplicate his hot irons and putter from the past two weeks. It was an all around fun day with memories galore.
Jorga struggled today on the driving range but went into full “JFB mode” on the number 1 tee box with a bomb. That driver was on fire the entire round. Besides a tough bunker lie on hole 8 and 9 and water on hole 10, she shot nearly perfect. She finished 1 under par to finish her last 7 holes, including a couple chip ins. She finished the day 43-39 for a 82. That 82 was the 12th best round shot today. Despite her tough first round yesterday, she finished 37th place out of 85 golfers.
Fin just couldn’t string any consistent shots together today. He still shot real good, but not to what he was hoping for. The wedges were off and the putts weren’t dropping. The morning WET ROUGH was nearly impossible to get a solid shot out of there. He did finish with a solid 94 today after an 83 yesterday. Pretty impressive for our first year golfer…..wow.
All I have to say is that Coach Tyler and myself are so damn proud of these two golfers. It was fun on the course, but as always with the golf team, the real fun usually takes place off the course. The laughs and memories for a lifetime!!! Sorry to see Fin graduate, but looking forward to Jorga returning next year.

7:39 tee time on the final day of state golf tournament for Fin. After 45 minutes on the range and putting green this morning, he should be ready to move up the leaderboard. Go Fin

First round of the state golf tournament has ended for Jorga. It was a rough day with some bad breaks. She ended the day with a 52-50 for a 102. She is disappointed but we are proud how she fought through it. I guarantee she will be under 85 tomorrow. If I could, I would take wagers on that all day. Today is done and tomorrow is a new day. The golfers are having fun and meeting new people. Fin tees off tomorrow at 7:39 and we are still waiting for Jorga’s tee time.

Fin just finished Day 1 strong. He finished with a 43-40 for a total of 83. Half way through the round, he decided to park the driver in the bag. A hard but great decision. After that, he was solid. Irons were hot and his putter was incredibly hot. Awesome start. We are on the path of meeting or exceeding our pre tournament goals. I can guarantee an even better 18 tomorrow as he gets to know the course better. Great job Fin!!!! Me and Tyler are very proud of your round.

“On the tee box for the 7:30 tee time is Fin Batalden from Red Rock Central.” The drive was crushed down the middle. Second shot found the pond in front of the green. Two good putts saved him a double bogey.

DAY 1 (MONDAY) OF STATE GOLF TOURNAMENT!!
We left Lamberton this morning at 5:00am. We must have left before the fire trucks could lead the parade and es**rt us on our way (inside joke). Our scheduled practice round was at 8:39. Pebble Creek is a beautiful course with plenty of sand but even more mosquitoes. The course was wet and it was very humid, perfect for the mosquitoes and all the geese. We got to hole 8 (the farthest hole from the clubhouse) when it started to rain very heavy. We sat in some trees for 20 minutes for it to pass. After that, the day was beautiful, but the golfers were drenched and golf gloves useless. We finished our 18 knowing a little more about the course. It should be helpful. It was a fun round with kids from other schools. Lots of laughing and jokes!! Save the pressure for the next two days. The day was wrapped up with a great banquet. Great experience for the golfers. Time to get to bed. Fin wants to be to the driving range by 6:15-6:30. He tees off at 7:30 and Jorga tees off after dinner. Number one and two goals…..have fun and make memories that last a lifetime. We are off to a good start.
