Ken’s Weekly Devotional
This week devotional is on “Listening to God”
John 10:27-28 (NKJV)
27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone sn**ch them out of My hand.
I must admit that I am guilty of sometimes moving too quickly without stopping and taking the time to really hear what God is trying to tell me. I have made some bad decisions because I moved without taking the time to “Listen” to God.
The world has changed so drastically over the past 20 to 30 years. There are so many distractions that keep us from hearing God on a daily basis. How many of you remember when television use to go off? Remember the National Anthem played and the t.v. would go into a white haze. Now we have t.v. 24/7, radio 24/7, YouTube, Face Book, Twitter, etc., that keeps us so occupied and distracted that we miss hearing God. Technology is great and it keeps us aware, updated and in the know of the world that we can become distracted from the “Word.” We miss or mistake the world for the Word and get set up, set back, and sat down.
Our one on one time with God helps us to stay tuned into God and God’s Word. John 10: 27-28 tells us that as a child of God we will recognize God’s voice amidst of all the other voices and distortion that is around us. And just in case you are not sure the devil’s voice is in the mix. Be sure that you are “Listening to God” by spending time with Him. He wants a personal relationship with you and you only.
One of the best things my wife did for me two weeks ago was to take my phone when I went into my study to hear from God. I’m in there for hours sometimes and when the phone is in there with me, I’m tempted to pick it up and view the text messages or pick up the phone when it vibrates form someone calling me. I had to realize that nothing is more important than my one on one uninterrupted time “Listening” to God!
The remainder of the week. I want to challenge each of you to put your phone away for one hour a day; turn it off, leave it in another room on vibrate. Send out a text and tell all your family that you will not be around your phone for an hour. Do whatever you have to do to find time to go off to yourself with no distractions and just “Listen to God.” I have had times when it was just God and I tears just flowed for no other reason except for just quietly being in His presence. I mean really feeling the presence of God. You will know it when it happens; it is the most purifying and rejuvenating experience you can ever have. Take the challenge!!
Blessings!
Ken’s Weekly Devotional
The topic for this week is “U-TURNS”
While out driving one evening, I needed to head in the opposite direction. On this particular road that I was driving on there were signs that read no U-turns. I was in the far left hand lane and needed to go in the opposite direction, but no matter how far I drove the signs kept displaying no U-turns. As I drove a little further the sign finally read U-turns allowed.
As I reflect back on life’s roads, I’m reminded that Jesus paid the price on Calvary so that U-TURNS are allowed. The devil as well as some people in the world will lead you to believe that you have messed up so bad that there is no turning around.
I’m here to tell you that God gave us His Son Jesus so that it is possible to make a U-turn. You see U-turns by definition is a 180 degree turn in the opposite direction in which you are currently headed. Drug dealers, prostitutes, criminals, gambler, cheater etc., can all make U-TURNS because of Jesus blood on Calvary. I’m glad that U-TURNS are possible or I would not be where God has me today. If you find yourself heading in the opposite direction of the teachings of the Word of God, make that U-TURN today, It not too late!
I’m reminded of the conversation Jesus had with the two criminals on the cross. One criminal who was hanging on the cross hurled insults while the other I’m paraphrasing “Said He is innocent and we are not, we deserve to get what is coming but He does not. Then he asked Jesus to remember him when He come into His Kingdom. Jesus did something remarkable that many people miss. In the midst of His suffering, agony, and pain Jesus “DEPRESSED” His pain and suffering to “EXPRESS” his love and compassion “Jesus said “Truly I say unto you, “Today” you shall be with “ME” in “Paradise.
If you think that you are too far gone in the world, I’m here to tell you that you are not. This is speaking to “YOU” make the life saving U-TURN, it’s not too late.
Isaiah 30:21New King James Version (NKJV)
21 Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying,
“This is the way, walk in it,”
Whenever you turn to the right hand
Or whenever you turn to the left.
Blessings!
