Breaking the Chain While Honoring the Women Who Held It â¨
I come from a long line of strong Black women, women who carried entire families on their backs, who became the providers, the protectors, the nurturers, and the backbone when the men who shouldâve stood beside them didnât.
In my family, strength wasnât just a trait⌠it became an identity. Survival became a lifestyle. Endurance became a language. And struggle became a familiar companion that followed generation after generation.
I honor those women deeply.I honor their grit, their sacrifice, their sleepless nights, their unspoken tears, and the way they kept showing up even when life gave them every reason not to. They didnât choose strength, strength chose them, and they rose to the challenge every single time.
But I am also something new. I am the broken chain, the shift, the turning point. I am living proof that you can step out of survival mode and into a life that feels safe, whole, and abundant. I am learning that strength doesnât have to come from pain. It doesnât have to be born from trauma. It doesnât have to be mandatory.
For me, being a strong Black woman is now a choice, not a requirement. I get to choose softness.I get to choose rest. I get to choose peace. I get to choose joy without guilt. I get to choose a life where thriving is the norm, not the exception.
And as I watch some of the women I love still operating in survival mode, still carrying burdens they never deserved, it triggers something in me. Not judgment, but compassion. Not distance, but understanding. Because I know what it took for them to survive, and I know what it takes to walk away from that mindset.
My hope is to share what Iâve learned: How to release the identity of struggle. How to heal the parts of you that only know how to fight. How to build a life that feels safe enough to thrive. How to rewrite the story without erasing the women who wrote the chapters before you.
I am grateful. I am blessed. And I am committed to showing other women that survival is not the finish line, thriving is.
