The future of automotive technology is arriving at Palm Beach State College!

Thanks to Florida Rep. Debra Tendrich, who secured $1.1 million in Florida's 2026-2027 budget, PBSC is advancing its new Electric, Hybrid and Alternative Fuels Vehicle Technician program. Combined with $4.1 million in federal funding, this initiative represents a $5.2 million investment in the future of automotive education and South Florida's workforce.

Launching in February 2027, the program will provide hands-on training in high-voltage safety, battery technology, electric motors, power electronics and advanced diagnostics.

"I think that we have a responsibility to ensure that you're earning a credential that's going to lead to a high-wage paying job," said PBSC President Ava L. Parker, JD, to a large group of students, instructors, staff and automotive industry representatives in attendance at today’s announcement. "That's the commitment we have in this program right now. I'm so glad to work at an institution that recognizes the importance of workforce and the difference that we have to make in our community."

“What I'm really excited about is what happens next with this check: the opportunities this creates for Palm Beach State students and the workforce we are building right here at home,” Tendrich said. “We're giving students specialized skills that can lead to real careers and making sure that Palm Beach County has the workforce it needs as vehicle technology changes.”

Thank you, Rep. Tendrich, for investing in our students and helping create new career opportunities right here at home.

Pratt & Whitney is a Panther Patron Sponsor for the 2026 Emerald Torch Awards Gala.

For more than a decade, Pratt & Whitney has supported Palm Beach State College students and helped connect education with workforce opportunities. In 2013, the company became one of the College's top contributors to the Electrical Power Technology (EPT) program. Since then, Pratt & Whitney has hired 40 PBSC students from the EPT and Engineering Technology (ET) programs.

Partnerships like this help students turn what they learn in the classroom into meaningful careers and brighter futures.

Join us in thanking Pratt & Whitney for its continued investment in Palm Beach State College students and workforce development in Palm Beach County. Together, we're creating pathways from education to career success.

Twenty-five years later, we remember so future generations will never forget.

Today, the Palm Beach State College community came together at events across our campuses to reflect on the countless lives forever changed by September 11, 2001.

At our Lake Worth campus, PBSC President Ava L. Parker joined students, faculty and staff in climbing the equivalent of 110 stories — the height of the World Trade Center towers — in respect of the first responders who climbed those stairs on September 11, knowing they might never come home.

At our Boca Raton campus, a wreath-laying ceremony brought the campus together to the thousands of lives lost and the countless individuals who answered the call to serve in the days and years that followed.

There was also a ceremony at the Belle Glade campus which featured a memorial speech by Student Services Specialist Raheem Benjamin followed by a moment of silence.

“These observances remind us that remembrance is more than looking back,” Parker said. “It is a time to reflect on the values that unite us as a nation and as a college community - service, courage, compassion and our commitment to one another.”

Hear from our public safety students, faculty and staff who took part in today's stair climb.

Today, the Palm Beach State College community came together at events across our campuses to reflect on the countless lives forever changed by September 11, 2001.

At our Boca Raton campus, faculty, staff and students gathered at the September 11 Memorial for a wreath ceremony, paying tribute to those who lost their lives and those who served in the aftermath.

At our Lake Worth campus, PBSC President Ava L. Parker, J.D. joined students, faculty and staff in climbing the equivalent of 110 stories—the height of the World Trade Center towers—in respect of the first responders who climbed those stairs on September 11, knowing they might never come home.

As a college community, we pause to reflect on the lives, courage and sacrifice remembered today, and we remain committed to honoring their legacy through service, compassion and community.

Twenty-five years after the events of September 11, 2001, we pause as a College community to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost, honor the first responders and heroes who answered the call and reflect on the courage, compassion and resilience that emerged in the face of tragedy.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.
