I wanted to take a moment to thank the 1,526 of you that showed up for our kids and our community yesterday and voted yes. We see you. We appreciate you. We were 382 votes shy of a win. It was 44% yes and 55% no. If you are reading this and you voted no - please - reach out to your local school board members and your superintendent and tell them specifically why. They want to know. Show up at school board meetings and advocate for the changes you’d like to see. Your votes were counted and heard…and we heard from many of you suggesting ideas. This is your chance to follow through on those alternative suggestions and ideas to help. Please don’t fall silent now. This school is a representation of our community and we are all part of the Lakewood Public Schools community. We need all of you. I know there has been a lot of community division over this proposal and I hope today, on August 9th, we can leave that behind us and lock arms in unity as a community. Our small towns and our kids need it.

I cannot attest to the accuracy of this, but I have reports that the voting numbers are in the mere hundreds in some polling places. This means EVERY. VOTE. is even more important and carries more weight! PLEASE show up and vote yes before 8 pm tonight! This bond needs YOU! Please don’t assume there are plenty of other yes voters. I don’t want you to have regrets tomorrow! We need you TODAY! Thank you to everyone that has already voted!

Worth resharing as this is something to consider if you’re on the fence about how to vote:

Did you know: The Lakewood School district has fewer mills than EVERY. SINGLE. neighboring school district. Look at the attached chart! We have THE. LOWEST. rate. All of our neighboring school districts have more mills in place than we do. And - EVEN IF THIS BOND PASSES - we will STILL be lower than all other neighboring district current millage rates! We can do better than this. Our community and our kids deserve it. Please consider voting yes. And please like and share!

Did you know there was a School Bond Proposal that lost by a mere TWO votes just last year!? (Greenville Public Schools - May of 2022.)

Your Yes vote will make such a difference for our school on Tuesday August 8th. Please show up for our kids and our community. We need absolutely every vote to pass this. Please don’t rely on someone else showing up. We need YOU! And please remind your friends!

Did you know: This bond proposal dropped from a 30 year down to a TWENTY year loan (as opposed to the last proposal). That saved a whopping $11.4 million for taxpayers! A lot of time and energy was spent going into the financials on the backend to help this bond make more sense and be more financially responsible than the proposal that failed last fall! Please like and share to help spread awareness and don’t forget to vote yes on August 8th! We need all of the yes voters to show up!

After the last bond proposal failed, they held many forums to get feedback from the community on what YOU wanted to see in a new bond. As well as what you DIDN’T want to see in a bond.

❌ No Turf
❌ No Tennis Court Resurfacing
❌ No Community Center
❌ No Admin Building
❌ No Multipurpose Room at the West El

The above items are a few of the things that were in the last bond proposal that have been REMOVED in the current bond proposal based on community feedback.

These items accounted for over 13 million dollars on the last bond. Many of your voices were heard and this bond is structured more in line with community desires! Please like and share to help spread awareness!

There were roughly 51 school shootings in the US in 2022 that resulted in injury or death. FIFTY ONE. Which means over 43,000 K-12 kids experienced a school shooting last year alone. Lakewood is woefully unprepared to handle a situation such as this due to inadequate entries. This bond proposal will include creating safe and secure entries at all of our schools as well as other much needed security updates in some spaces including key cards and alarms. Please help us provide our kids with a safe learning space that has proper security. And please like and share!
