What is autism spectrum disorder (ASD)? The authors of The Challenges in Raising Autistic Children: The Voices of Mothers defined autism as "a lifetime developmental disorder usually identified by social interaction impairment, communication deficits, and repetitive behavior" (Abdullah et al., 2022).
Individuals with ASD can have challenges with cognitive impairment, physical limitations, sensory needs, communication, etc.
In 2022, there were approximately 52,000 cases of ASD reported worldwide. Each case is different. There are many signs and symptoms of ASD. An individual with ASD might not exhibit every sign or symptom. The article mentioned above discusses a research study on parents, specifically mothers, with children on the spectrum. The results concluded that mothers who have children on the spectrum have more challenges than a mother who does not. I found the content to be informative. The article gave details into what parents might have challenges with when raising their child.
