Most people think they âoverreact.â Whatâs actually happening is faster than conscious thought. The amygdala detects a threat and temporarily overrides the prefrontal cortex, the part of your brain responsible for reasoning, perspective, and restraint. Thatâs why it feels so immediate. And why itâs so hard to âjust calm downâ in the moment. The goal isnât to never get triggered because letâs face it, thatâs impossible. Itâs to recognize when your brain has been hijacked, and give it enough time to come back online before you act. That pause is what separates reaction from response. Hope this helps đ
