Our little scientists have been incredibly busy the last couple of days at STEM camp!

Day 2 was all about SPACE! 🌌 We launched into the day by building (and eating!) delicious fruit rocket snacks, engineered our very own water bottle rockets, and explored the wonders of the cosmos.

🕸️ We're Totally Caught in This Web of Fun!

Camp Day 1 had us thinking like spiders!

After reading Jumper, we learned that jumping spiders can leap up to five times their body length. To put that into perspective, campers measured themselves, calculated their "spider jump distance," and then got busy designing and building spider-launching contraptions.

The results? Some spiders soared. Some spiders tumbled. All spiders provided excellent engineering data. 😆

We wrapped up the day with spider-themed snacks that were much less intimidating than the real thing.

It's safe to say our campers are off to a jumping-good start! 🕷️🚀

A message from the Cyber Viking.

Today I was off on another lunchtime cyber education adventure at DoD STARBASE Kelly! BSides SATX

I had the opportunity to speak with 27 students and two teachers from the Young Women’s Leadership Academy (SAISD) about cybersecurity, online safety, and the importance of protecting our digital world.

If you follow my journey as The Cyber Viking, you already know that visiting DoD Starbase Kelly SATX is one of my favorite things to do. It gives me the chance to introduce 5th grade students to the world of cybersecurity and show them how cyber professionals help protect infrastructure, personal information, organizational data, and critical systems from cyberattacks. I also enjoy helping students understand that cybersecurity is not only important — it can also become an exciting future career path. One of the best launching pads for students interested in cybersecurity is joining (or even starting) a CyberPatriot team.

Today’s discussion focused on basic cybersecurity concepts, common cyberattacks, and ways to prevent them. I even used my Cyber Viking Crew comic series to help illustrate the different threats and defenses in a fun and engaging way. The students especially loved the newest crew member introduced in Episode 5!

The level of engagement and the thoughtful questions from all 27 students made this the perfect way to spend my lunch break.

Sadly, this week marks the end of another incredible STEM education year for DoD STARBASE Kelly — but only briefly. Their summer STEM camps begin in late June and continue into early July, and I’m excited to share that I’ve already been invited back to speak with their STEM campers about cybersecurity as part of my “Summer of Cyber 2026.” CyberTexas Foundation
