I am so proud to see our district recognized in this national publication. This feature reflects the steady, thoughtful work of our students, staff, families, and community partners, as well as our shared commitment to educating the whole child. I’m grateful to serve on a board that prioritizes strong academics, equity, and student well-being while preparing our students for the future!

Once a year, school board members in California gather for an Annual Education Conference to network with colleagues and share best practices. This year’s conference, which just ended yesterday, was in San Francisco. The highlight of the conference for me as a keynote by Sal Khan, founder of Khan Academy, showing how AI can drive personalized learning to significantly improve student learning. The briefing by the Legislative Analyst’s Office on the upcoming economic projections was sobering; we’ll need to keep a close eye on how the fiscal picture plays out on the coming months.

As the campaign season winds down, I want to express my appreciation to all the volunteers and voters who have placed their trust in me. Although the ballots are still being counted, given the current results it seems likely that I will be returning to another term on the CUSD Governing Board.
An election campaign is an intricate set of coordinated activities compressed into a short time span. There are funds to be raised, photos to be taken, flyers to be designed, videos to be edited, lists to be cut, signs to be distributed, homes to be canvassed… you get the idea. I couldn’t have done all of this without dozens of people across our district who have generously contributed time, expertise, and funds to get our messages out to the community. Words can’t adequately describe the gratitude I feel for all the help, support, and encouragement that I have received from all of you.
When I look to the future, I can feel a difference from when I first took office four years ago. We are now in a position to do more for our students, and it will be my top priority to ensure that we take actions that have clear and measurable impacts on student success and learning outcomes. Six months ago, when I hadn’t decided to run for re-election, I had created a list of to-do items to share with the next board and our superintendent for their consideration for when I’m not here. Now, I’m super energized to be in a position to work with my board colleagues to improve our schools for our students, parents, staff, and community. Please stay engaged and join us on this journey to move our district forward for a better CUSD! Thank you.
