Karns Shades of Development We are a high quality after-school program located at Karns Elementary School. The SHADES Afterschool program bridges the school day and home life.

SHADES of Development believes that children learn and grow with every interaction they encounter during their waking hours of the day. Afterschool time is a time to enhance learning, promote relationship building, and exercise conflict resolution techniques in a relaxed, nurturing and fun environment. SHADES further believes that it is essential to create an environment of mutual respect where adults and children can share, laugh, and learn together by setting goals, communicating, developing trust and holding ourselves and each other accountable. Our vision is to provide Safe, Healthy, Adventures that Develop Essential Skills for lifelong learning and success for all school-age children in need of out-of-school time services

We have had a BLAST during week 6 and week 7 of SHADES summer camp! 💚☀️

Week 6 was all about medieval times, knights, castles, and dragons! We finished the week with each group presenting a medieval group showcase!🏰🐉✨

Week 7 was all about space! Our friends learned about NASA and rocket ships, and we finished the week with a field trip to WonderWorks!🚀⭐️☄️

We have had so much fun these last three weeks at SHADES!

⭐️ During week 3, we became detectives and solved the case of the missing cookies!🍪

⭐️ Week 4 was all about Disney! We finished the week with a Disney themed family fun night! ✨🏰

⭐️ Week 5’s theme was Inventor’s camp! We learned all about inventions and big ideas, and we finished the week with a field trip to the Muse! 💡🌈

We had a GREAT time last week at SHADES summer camp! 💚

This week’s theme was about all things Star Wars, and our friends had fun learning all about the movies and the history of film making! We finished the week with a visit to Premier gymanstics Jedi training course!!🤸‍♀️

Week 1 of SHADES Summer Camp is in the books and we have had a GREAT time!!

Our friends learned all about Egypt this week, and we had different fun activities every day centered around this theme!

We closed the week out with a water day and Kona ice also came to visit! 🌊😎☀️

Karns SHADES elementary waved goodbye to our butterflies today!👋🤩

Our nature club has been studying the lifecycle of butterflies, and we’ve had some little critter friends to help teach them! We watched the caterpillars turn into chrysalises, and then we watched them hatch into butterflies! 🦋🐛

We were sad to see them go, but it was so much fun to send our butterfly friends off!🥳
