Another great week at the Bearden Learning Center!

This week, we:
📖 Studied Genesis 1–2 and what it means to be made in God’s image
📝 Practiced Bible study through our Quiet Time Journals
🤝 Met one-on-one with students for quarterly check-ins, grades & prayer requests
🧠 Played Genesis buzzword & map games
🚗 Served BHS staff through a student-led car wash!

We love seeing students learn that faith isn’t just something we talk about—it’s something we live out. ❤️

Week #3 at the Bearden Learning Center 📖🙌

Week 3 was all about putting our faith into practice! Students continued learning what it means to be a disciple of Jesus—not just by knowing His Word, but by living it out.

🧹 Service & Serving Others — We looked at how Jesus modeled a life of serving others. Then we put that lesson into action by picking up trash across campus and cleaning throughout the inside and outside of the church. It was a great opportunity to embody what it means to be a disciple of Jesus by serving others.

📖 Quiet Time & Bible Study — We wrapped up our discipleship study by learning what a Quiet Time is and the ABCs of keeping a Quiet Time Journal: A — Ask Questions, B — Best Verse, C — Communicate with God through Prayer. Students spread throughout the church to spend time studying Colossians 1:15–23 and putting these tools into practice.
On Tuesday evening we also had several students from both the Bearden Learning Center and Anchor Learning Center share about their experiences with friends from the West High community who are interested in seeing this program at their school!

🎯 Review & Unit 0 Test — We reviewed everything we had learned about the foundations of the Bible and discipleship with a Jeopardy-style review game before students took their Unit 0 test.

🌎 Unit 1: Genesis — On Friday, we officially began our study of Genesis by diving into the account of Creation and the beginning of God’s story in Scripture.

🍪 Fellowship Friday — We wrapped up another great week with some treats and a little Giraffle! 🦒

Three weeks in, we’re thankful to see students not only learning God’s Word, but learning how to live it out. We’re excited to keep growing together as we study, serve, and follow Jesus!

Week #2 at the Bearden Learning Center 📖🙌

This week we began diving deeper into Scripture and started our Discipleship Days, learning practical ways to grow in our relationship with God.

Here’s a look at our week:

📜 Parchment & Hebrew — We made our own version of parchment paper and learned the basics of the Hebrew language. Students even got to write some important Old Testament words in Hebrew!

📚 The Biblical Canon — We explored what the biblical canon is and how we got the books that make up our Bibles today. We looked at how God has faithfully preserved His Word throughout history.

🔍 How to Read & Study the Bible — We kicked off our lessons on discipleship by learning how to study Scripture through Observation, Interpretation, and Application—learning not just to read the Bible, but to understand it and live it out.

🧠 Scripture Memory — Why memorize Scripture? We talked about the biblical reasons for hiding God’s Word in our hearts and practiced several strategies for memorization. We started with our first memory verse: Colossians 1:16.

🙏 Prayer — We looked at where prayer appears throughout the Bible and how it is modeled for us. Students learned practical structures for prayer based on Jesus’ teaching to His disciples, then had time to pray quietly before gathering in small groups to debrief and discuss.

🍪 Fellowship Friday — And, of course, we had to close out another great week with some treats and time together!

We’re so excited to watch these students continue to learn God’s Word, put it into practice, and grow in their faith. There’s so much more to come!

Week #1 at the Bearden Learning Center 📖🙌

What a great first week at the Bearden Learning Center! We spent the week getting to know one another, building community, and laying a foundation for what we’ll be learning together this semester.

Here’s a glimpse at our week:

🧊 Icebreakers & Community — We started by getting to know each other, laughing together, and learning names and stories.

🙏 Prayer — We began and ended each class in prayer.

📖 The Metanarrative of the Bible — We explored the big story of Scripture and how the Bible tells one unified story which points to Jesus from beginning to end.

🌎 Christian Worldview — We talked about what a worldview is and how the Christian worldview helps us understand God, ourselves, the world around us, and our purpose.

🔎 Church Scavenger Hunt — Students raced around the church searching for clues and discovering an important truth: every worldview claims to lead somewhere and even some with good intentions, but the Christian worldview leads us to the ultimate treasure—knowing Jesus.

📜 Can We Trust the Bible? — We dove into Biblical manuscripts and the reliability of the Biblical text. Through a game of telephone, students saw how easily a message can change when passed from person to person—but also why the transmission of Scripture is not simply a game of telephone. Biblical manuscripts were carefully copied, preserved, compared, and passed down through generations, giving us strong confidence in the reliability of the words we have today.

🍩 Fellowship Friday — And, of course, we had to end the week with some food, fellowship, and DONUTS!

It was an incredible first week, and we’re excited for all that God has in store for this semester.

What a great first day at the Bearden Learning Center! We met students in the West Mall, finished permission slips, rode in the new van (selfies taken when not in motion 😂), introduced students to the classroom space at GMBC, and prayed together to end the day! Can’t wait to dive into the Word with these students.

Looking forward to seeing lots of staff, parents and students tonight at our first Open House! Pop in from 5-7pm at Gallaher Memorial Baptist Church to meet the staff, see the space, ask questions, and pick up some swag!

Loved getting to collaborate with other RTBE teachers and pray for our students!

This morning, our CLC teachers met up for collaborative inservice with Released Time Bible Education teachers in Knox County! We are thankful for the teams at Anchor Learning Center and Bearden Learning Center for setting this up!
