Birth Space PSA! 📣📣📣

New ELECTIVE INDUCTION study ⭐️

A new study led by Professor of Midwifery .dahlen has found that women did not feel involved in decision making regarding induction and were not given proper informed consent.

The new Australian study found that if you have an elective induction (ie. no medical reason) as a first-time mother, your chance of having a caesarean is more than double. Additionally your baby is more likely to be distressed and the risk of vacuum is increased.

They found that in induced births there was more neonatal birth trauma, need for resuscitation, need for NICU care and ongoing respiratory infections up until age 16. In that time, we have not altered the perinatal mortality rate at al. NO change in stillbirths and babies dying after birth.🤨

The rate of induction for Australian first-time mothers increased from 25% 10 years ago, to 45% in 2018. 🤯🤯

*The World Health Organization (WHO) standard for induction is 41 weeks.*

FUN FACT FRIDAY. Did you know you grow more milk-making cells in your breasts with each pregnancy? So the more pregnancies you have, the more grapes (erhm.. I mean milk-making cells) you’ll have! 🍇

Were you a first time mom struggling with milk supply like me? I don’t think a day went by where I didn’t think about ways to at least keep up my supply.

Second time around? A BOUNTIFUL supply! Now there are many factors for this, but one is because the hormone changes that you go through in pregnancy help your body make more milk-making cells. So in addition to the ones you had from your last pregnancy, you’ll have some more!

Pretty neat huh? So if your breastfeeding journey didn’t work out the way you wanted to your first time, it likely won’t be the same the second time around (for many reasons, having more milk-making cells being one of them!) 🙌🏻

I’ll have way more information like this on my website, where the launch is coming in March. Be the first to know! Link in the bio or go to breastfeedingdietitian.com 🤱

One of the biggest concerns that so many breastfeeding and pumping moms face is the fear that they will not be able to keep up their breast milk supply at the rate of their breastfed baby’s ever increasing demand for more and more milk!

This understandable concern is usually based on the misunderstanding and misperception of how much milk a breastfed baby actually eats!

Unlike infant formula, breast milk is constantly changing over time…and so unlike formula fed infants who do require more and more milk as the months go by, breastfed infants DO NOT continue to need more and more breast milk as they get older. The milk is actually changing to accommodate the needs of an older infant and so more volume is not actually needed.

This is GREAT news for moms who are comparing their 4 oz breast milk bottles to those 8 or 9 oz formula bottles that they may see being fed to another baby in day care or in advertisements for infant formula.

These can be so discouraging and create so much doubt and insecurity in a breastfeeding mom who is actually making the PERFECT amount of breast milk!

Having the right information and knowledge is key to building your confidence and knowing that you are giving your baby exactly what he or she needs. 💛💛💛

These dilation pumpkins are the scariest thing I’ve seen all night. 🎃🙀 🤣

It was set up by midwives at the Royal Oldham Hospital in Lancashire, England as part of a pumpkin decorating competition.

just did a whole IGTV Post with his wife on his left breastfeeding their child.
He then stopped to say

I LOVE IT! We need more men to be educated on breastfeeding and encourage the mother's of their children to breastfeed. 💕

This was MAJOR. 💪🏾
