Congratulations, Brooklyn! Henley High School

Congratulations to Henley High School senior Brooklyn Conrad and Chiloquin Junior/Senior High School senior Temperance Calhoun, recipients of the first-ever KCSD Administrators Scholarship! πŸŽ“ πŸ‘

SCHOLARSHIP INVESTS IN FUTURE EDUCATORS: Klamath County School District administrators are investing directly in the next generation of teachers through a new annual scholarship program designed to encourage students to pursue careers in education.

The KCSD Administrators Scholarship, established during the 2025-26 school year, provides financial assistance to graduating seniors who plan to attend an Oregon college or university and major in education. The scholarship is funded entirely through contributions from district administrators, reflecting their shared commitment to supporting future educators and strengthening the profession.

This year, two graduating seniors have been selected to receive $500 scholarships -- Henley High School senior Brooklyn Conrad and Chiloquin Junior/Senior High School senior Temperance Calhoun. The students were chosen based on their plans to pursue degrees in education and their potential to make a positive impact in the classroom and their communities.

Brooklyn plans to attend University of Oregon and wants to be a third- or fourth-grade teacher. Temperance is going to attend University of Oregon with plans for a career in teaching.

District leaders say the scholarship was created not only to help students with the cost of college, but also to encourage talented young people to consider careers in education at a time when schools across the state and nation continue to face teacher shortages.

"Education is one of the most important professions in our communities," said KCSD Superintendent Glen Szymoniak. "By supporting students who want to become teachers, we are investing in the future of our schools and the success of generations of students to come."

The scholarship also reflects the dedication of KCSD administrators, who voluntarily contribute to the fund each year. Their collective effort demonstrates a belief in nurturing future educators and creating pathways for local students to return to their communities as teachers, counselors, and educational leaders, said Jamie Ongman, director of human resources for the district.

β€œWe hope that this scholarship becomes a lasting tradition and continues to grow in the years ahead, providing opportunities for more students who are passionate about serving others through education,” Ongman said.

Working together to bring more services to Klamath County

A partnership with Henley Engineering, Sky Lakes Medical Center, Klamath Community College (KCC), Oregon Tech, and local pediatric physical therapists has led to providing more options for children in our community to gain independent mobility and play. This work has been supported by a generous grant from the SkyLakes Foundation and partnering with Go Baby Go Oregon. Henley Engineering students hosted two workshops, one in April and another in May. Students in the Principles of Engineering Class at Henley High School also participated in the building process as a class project. These combined efforts led to building 9 button cars, 5 single joystick jeeps, and 25 adaptive toys. When we come together anything is possible.

We are incredibly proud to partner with Tater Tots Pediatric Physical Therapy and support life-changing opportunities through our Go Baby Go Oregon project at Henley High School! πŸš™πŸ’™

Our Engineering students recently worked alongside pediatric physical therapists to modify ride-on jeeps into accessible mobility devices for young children, helping create greater independence and access at home and in the community.

A huge thank you to Tater Tots Pediatric Physical Therapy for recognizing the hard work and talent of our students. Seeing classroom learning turn into real-world impact is what CTE is all about!

We are so proud of these young engineers for using their skills to serve others and make a difference right here in our community.

Our very own Kayla Taylor, PT, DPT has been so excited to connect with our local group of Go Baby Go Oregon at Henley High School to access mobility options for her pediatric PT patients! She spent an incredible day on Tuesday learning how to make modifications to make jeeps into accessible devices to move around their homes and community from an immensely talented group of HS engineering students. We are so honored to accept these 2 button cars from their program today and are eagerly awaiting delivery of a modified jeep to trial with our patients. We love the partnerships we have built with our local high schools. These young adults are incredible!
