Today is give a hoot day at OIT! Please consider donating to our foundation fund that supports applied learning experiences for our students in ENV. We hire student researchers who get partnered with scientists at the Klamath Refuges to increase data collection efforts in the basin. Last year students banded birds, removed invasive weeds, worked in integrated pest management, and helped mitigate avian botulism. Funds stay local and go directly to the students! Students working in the OregonTech Bug Lab spent Saturday collecting macro invertebrate samples on the Deschutes River in partnership with Three Rivers Mosquito and Vector Control.

Hosted Bonanza High school students on campus today for their ENV 111 advanced credit class. Students had the chance to test water hardness, practice compass orienteering, and did a campus tour that included lunch in the dining facility. It was a great day.

During our stay at Valle Escondido, we took a permaculture tour where we explored the core principles and ethics of permaculture. We then got our hands dirty learning about their composting techniques firsthand!

Yesterday’s study abroad adventure took us to Life Monteverde Coffee Farm and Café Monteverde in Costa Rica! 🇨🇷 Students explored sustainable coffee-making practices, learned about traditional methods, and got a behind-the-scenes look at a working coffee farm. They even rolled up their sleeves to help out with some of the farm work before wrapping up the tour with a delicious coffee tasting! ☕🌱
