Had an awesome one-on-one session with Eric today through Drop Shock Training Group’s Shooting Diagnosis and Corrections Course.
This course is a focused, one-hour private session built around the shooter’s current skill level, equipment, limitations, and goals. Before we even got to the range, Eric and I had already corresponded by email and spoke over the phone. We covered his ammo, firearm, optic setup, current issues, and what he wanted to improve.
Once we got to the range, everything was already set up and ready to go. I had Eric start by showing me his baseline. I wanted to see exactly what he was doing naturally before making corrections. From there, I diagnosed what was happening and tailored the rest of the session specifically around him.
Eric explained that he wanted to improve his defensive shooting confidence, tighten up his shot groups, and work around a physical limitation that made him question whether he could properly manipulate his firearm if he ever needed to.
That is exactly where one-on-one coaching matters.
We worked around the limitation, adjusted where needed, and focused heavily on building the right foundation. One of the biggest things we identified was recoil anticipation. Every time that anticipation started showing up, we slowed everything down and went back to dry fire. Dry fire became the reset button. And sure enough, every time he slowed down, reset, and fired that first round, it was right where it needed to be.
By the end of the session, Eric was successfully placing multiple rounds inside a 6-inch target and transitioning to smaller 3-inch targets while staying accountable for his shots.
Watching that progression happen in just one hour was outstanding.
This is why I always tell people: do not keep practicing bad habits. Repetition only helps if you are repeating the right thing. If you are struggling at the range, find a qualified instructor, get evaluated, and build a solid foundation from the beginning.
You do not have to train with Drop Shock Training Group, but please get proper training from someone who knows how to diagnose, correct, and coach you as an individual.
That is what this course is about: personalized feedback, real corrections, focused reps, and drills you can take home and continue building on.
Great work today, Eric. It was a pleasure watching your confidence and performance improve.

Today was less about running a full class and more about spending some quality time with close friends and family. Some of us haven’t seen each other in a while, and even though we were missing two people, we still got to enjoy the day, catch up, and share some time together.
The rain cut our time short, so we didn’t get to go as deep as I wanted, but we still had a great day on the range. We had some brand-new shooters, some younger shooters shooting for the first time, and some of the wives came out as well. The main focus was safety first, then building the basics: stance, grip, trigger control, muzzle awareness, and just getting everyone comfortable handling fi****ms the right way.
Little by little, we’re going to keep building these individuals up the right way. The goal is not just to teach people how to shoot. The goal is to help responsible people become safe, confident, and disciplined firearm owners.
In June, we’re all getting together again, and this time we’re really going to throw it down and put in a couple solid hours of training, fellowship, and good energy.
Great day with great people. This is what it’s all about.
This weekend I had the opportunity to assist on the range with some solid instructors from Tactical Hyve, serving as an Assistant Instructor for the Cheat Codes of Shooting level 1 course.
It was a great experience being around professionals who take personal safety and fi****ms handling seriously.
What stood out to me was the diversity of experience among the instructors. The youngest instructor was in his early 30s and the oldest was 56, yet every one of them showed up ready to demonstrate the skills and lead from the front.
That matters. Students deserve instructors who can actually perform what they’re teaching.
One thing I really like about the way the class is structured is that students shoot a baseline string of fire at the beginning of the course. By the end of the training they run it again, and they can clearly see the improvement in their shooting. And they always improve. Watching that progress throughout the day and hearing the feedback from students at the end of the course is always rewarding.
For me personally, opportunities like this are important. I have a background in high-threat environments, executive and diplomatic protection, and other specialized work, but I don’t believe experience alone is enough. Good instructors don’t live in the past. We stay relevant, we keep learning, and we continue putting our skills to the test.
Nobody cares what you did years ago. What matters is what you can do today and what you can teach others for tomorrow.
That’s the mindset behind Drop Shock Training Group. Lead from the front, stay sharp, and always continue improving.
I had a great time on the range and I know the students did as well.
Today was one of those days that reminds me exactly why I do this.
I had the opportunity to work with a father and son during an introductory training session focused on communication, awareness, and teamwork.
The session wasn’t about speed or complexity. It was about fundamentals, how two people move and think together safely, communicate clearly, and maintain awareness in a shared environment.
We emphasized:
• Clear verbal communication
• Mutual awareness and coordination
• Deliberate, controlled movement
• Safety at all times
Nothing advanced. Nothing flashy. Just solid fundamentals done the right way.
What stood out most was the dynamic between them. Dave did an exceptional job mentoring his son and reinforcing discipline, responsibility, and respect for training fundamentals. His background and experience clearly showed in the way he approached instruction.
Great weather, a great environment, and even better people.
Days like this are what quality training is supposed to be about, learning, mentorship, and doing things the right way from the start.
I learned a hard lesson back in 2023. My wife and I had only been back in the U.S. for three days when we walked into a T-Mobile store to get her a new phone. Three individuals came in wearing all black, masked up, and started stealing phones right off the wall.
I spotted them before anything happened. I called it out, but civilians don’t understand what “heads up” means. They don’t see the indicators. They don’t read the room.
And here’s the truth:
There was no immediate threat to me, my wife, or anyone else. No gun, no knife, no violence, just a theft. But that situation reminded me of how quickly things can go sideways in the world we’re living in today.
We all know the reality:
Good Samaritans get sued.
People who try to help get punished.
Laws seem written to protect criminals.
And evil, sickness, and mental instability are increasing everywhere we look.
This is one of the reasons why I decided to go all-in on self-defense, home defense, and marksmanship training. Because most attacks don’t come with a warning. Most victims never see it coming.
We’ve already seen tragedies like Irina Zlutska on the train, stabbed without reason. We’ve seen random attacks in parks, laundromats, stores, innocent people blindsided by individuals who are violent, unstable, or simply looking for someone who can’t fight back.
And let’s be honest…
Police are reactionary, not preventative. By the time they arrive, the damage has already been done. That’s not an attack on law enforcement, it’s simply reality. They enforce laws. They show up after the fact.
Your safety, your security, and your survival are YOUR responsibility.
No one is coming to save you in those first seconds.
This is why I carry everywhere I legally can.
This is why I train.
This is why I teach.
Because the world isn’t getting safer.
People need skills, awareness, confidence, and capability more than ever.
The video below (blurred for safety and respect) is a graphic reminder of how fast a normal day can turn into a nightmare when someone walks in armed and unhinged.
If you’re not prepared…
If you’re not trained…
If you’re unaware of your surroundings…
You’re already behind the curve.

🎯 Precision vs. Speed: Understanding the Difference in Real-World Shooting
Just wrapped up a session with Dale and shot a quick video to demonstrate an important concept: the difference between precision shooting and fast, accurate engagement.
In competition or target shooting, precision is the goal. Tight groups, clean lines, perfect shots, and done in a reasonable speed to beat your competition.
But in a self-defense or combat-based scenario, the priority shifts. You need to be fast, you need to be accurate, and you need to be the first one to effectively engage and neutralize the threat. It’s not about threading a needle or splitting a hair, it’s about putting rounds on target quickly and decisively.
In the video, I show Dale how speed and accuracy work together when it matters. You can’t have sloppy shots, and you can’t be slow. The goal is a balance that allows you to respond under pressure with confidence and control.
If you want to improve your defensive shooting fundamentals, build faster reaction times, and tighten up your accuracy under stress, book a one-on-one session at:

🔥 One-on-One Range Session with Dale 🔥
Today I had the opportunity to work with Dale, an avid shooter who’s getting ready to step back into the world of competition shooting. Dale came out for a one-on-one shooting diagnosis session, and let me tell you… the man is accurate.
We spent the session tightening up the fundamentals to help him get faster, smoother, and more consistent:
• Fine-tuned his shooting stance for quicker transitions
• Worked both iron sights and his red dot, including a proper zero
• Broke down optic offset for close-range shots
• Addressed recoil anticipation and built cleaner control
• Ran magazine changes and remedial action drills
Overall, solid work and a great day on the range. Dale walked away sharper and more confident as he gets ready to get back into competition.
