Our very own Mrs. Dann recently won the “Voya Unsung Heroes Award”. Her innovative project “Ozobot City” received support from Voya to make her vision a reality for her students!

Here is a brief description of Mrs. Dann’s project: “Students will work in small groups to design and create a city using graph paper to create a blueprint of their city. Students will find the area in which the buildings take up, the volume of the buildings, and find angles of the roads that are created by their buildings. Their final step will be to code the Ozobots to move successfully around the cities of the other groups using their knowledge of coding and angles. As a hands-on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) project, its goal is to help students develop a fun and engaging relationship with math”.

Congratulations to Mrs. Dann! The students are so lucky to have you as their teacher!

Please join us in welcoming our newest member, and Elementary School Teacher, Nicole Zupp!

Please read a message from Ms.Zupp below:

Hello! My name is Nicole Zupp, and I am a new teacher here at Byram Lakes Elementary School! I graduated from the University of Phoenix. As a young girl, I always knew I would be a teacher when “I grew up”. I would play “school” with my siblings and friends constantly. As I got older that love for learning did not stop. I was extremely interested in science! Initially I went into my undergrad as a biology major, with dreams of being a science teacher. While in college I got a job teaching PreK. That job truly changed my life! I loved the sight of a young child discovering something new, or mastering a new skill. Even at the young age of four, children are eager to learn! I quickly decided that I wanted to teach younger children the skills they needed to become lifelong learners. After college graduation, I was hired for a number of maternity leave positions, in multiple districts, one of which being here at BLES. I INSTANTLY fell in love with this school. The administration truly makes you feel valued and appreciated! The teams I worked with became a supportive family, making sure I was comfortable and prepared. The entire building has an atmosphere of teamwork and passion for education. Now I am here as a full time member of this awesome team. Growing up there were times that I struggled in math. I get flashback memories of being “that” child in a classroom. I had an incredible teacher, Mrs. Richardson, who taught me that there are many different ways to take on challenging math problems. She worked with me to find the method that stuck. That was many years ago, and yet her memory sticks out to me. Now, it’s my time to be “that” teacher. To give each student the tools they need to succeed. Not only in math, but in all aspects of their life!

Please join us in welcoming our newest BEA member and Math Teacher at Byram Intermediate School: Victoria Rama!

Ms.Rama attended the College of New Jersey and chose teaching as a profession because she had many teachers in her experience as a student herself who were role models to her. She wants to be the same for a student during her career as well.

She is passionate about teaching math as she’s always wanted to reframe the way students viewed the subject. She explained that so many students dread the thought of math and she hopes to be someone that can help them see the fun and beauty in problem solving.

When asked about working in Byram, Ms. Rama shared that she has “...loved working with the staff at Byram. Everyone has been extremely welcoming and so supportive. Since it is my first year teaching everyone makes it a point to ask me how I've been doing and offer me any bits of knowledge they have that could help me in my own classroom. I am so lucky to have such a great support system!”

We are thrilled to have Ms. Rama join us this year and look forward to all she will accomplish in the years to come!
