TAMUK Upward Bound/Rural The purpose of this page is to share information/tools/resources with the Upward Bound participants wanting to continue their education after high school.

We service 6 target schools: Alice, H.M.King, San Diego, Raymondville, Premont, and Falfurrias HS. Upward Bound provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Upward Bound serves high school students from low-inco

me families; and high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education

The final week of our summer component has come to an end. Students stayed in the dorms at Texas A&M University-Kingsville and got a hint of what college life looks like. We explored the labs of Industrial Management and Technology in the College of Engineering. Students went outside their comfort zones, tried and learned new things and made life long connections💙😁👍

We took our summer participants to visit Texas A&M Victoria and Texas A&M University! Both colleges were beautiful and had some amazing programs.

Omg! We accomplished so much these last two weeks and had a great time! We visited South Texas College and UTRGV. We had our annual Egg Drop contest from the top of Javelina Stadium and we continued working on our art projects. We even had some math aha moments😁🤓

Week 2 Complete! This week we explored the Chemical Engineering lab and tested our tower making skills in Civil/Architectural Engineering. Learning can be fun!

Kathryn’s, artwork titled “Memories in Marigolds” won 3rd place in the artwork competition of Issue 6 of The Javelina Express. This also comes with a monetary scholarship that she will use to pursue her college career at Texas A&M University- Kingsville.
