Association for Body Mapping Education Bodymap.org is the home of the Association for Body Mapping Education, a not-for-profit organization

The Association for Body Mapping Education (ABME) trains musicians and music educators to accurately support and enhance movement in practice and performance with the goal of increasing ease while reducing and eliminating injury. Licensed Body Mapping Educators teach in colleges, universities, conservatories, and private studios throughout the world and offer professional development workshops for

musicians and music educators. All ABME members are musicians dedicated to helping other musicians and understand the struggles, both physical and mental, that musicians face in their careers. It is the hope of ABME that this method of teaching will encourage wellness and enhanced performance among musicians.

We are so excited to have Alissa Murphy joining the Association for Body Mapping Education as our new Executive Director! Alissa is an experienced nonprofit leader with a strong background in philanthropy and financial management. She has increased revenue by an average of $3.5 million for recent nonprofit partners. She has worked with amazing organizations including Music Theater of Wichita, TeachUNITED, and Teach for Life.

Alissa is a musician and received her Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Friends University. She is passionate about organizational growth and is dedicated to advancing the mission of ABME. Please help us give a warm welcome to Alissa by dropping an emoji in the comments! ⬇️☺️👏

A few years ago, our ABME Board faced a leadership crisis.

The job of president, leading our complex organization, an organization engaged in the recruiting, training, and licensing of musicians, as well as supporting and interacting with a plethora of member-staffed committees….the huge job of the ABME presidency felt overwhelming and resulted in some glaring vacancies at the top.

ABME would like to honor Bridget Jankowski as she steps down from the role of Executive Director to enter a season of working with the Peace Corps! Bridget has served ABME for many years and in many ways: LBME, past president, Sponsoring Teacher, author of the revised WEM, and Executive Director, to name just a few! Her heart for musicians - for people, really - is the core of who she is, and we are a better organization because of her contributions.

While we are sad to see her step down from this tremendous role, we are immeasurably grateful for all she has give to musicians and to this organization. The quality of our movement is super important to how we move! But have you thought about how suppressing or delaying movement is also just as important for musical accuracy and precision?

This is addressed in many movement methods such as Alexander Technique and Dalcroze studies. Training our inhibition is just as important as training how we move.
