rginia. The aftermath of pandemic learning left many children struggling to keep up with the fast-paced curriculum of an overburdened national school system short on funds and resources. The post pandemic return to brick-and-mortar schools also had a negative impact upon the mental health of students who had spent nine or more months in quarantine and were then thrust back into the traditional school setting of crowded halls, rigid social structures, academic pressures and behavioral issues instigated by prolonged isolation. We provide academic tutoring for all grades and subjects and the Compass Day Program for students 11-18 years who are in need of a flexible alternative learning environment. Our assisted homeschool program is for those kids who find the traditional school environment to be too restrictive. We offer a slower pace, flexible attendance, a small community of learners and breaks when they need them. We still have spots available if that sounds like a place in which your child would thrive.

Public school moves fast and by the time kids get to MS and HS it is assumed that they know how to read and write well but sadly that isn’t always the case.

Upper level teachers are not trained how to teach reading. That isn’t part of their content and frankly, don’t have the time.

Students must fill in those gaps outside of school and we can help. This class is going to be a small group of learners who will revisit and master all of the areas of reading and writing that are holding them back:

Phonics
Multisyllabic words
Morphology
Vocabulary
Comprehension & Fluency
Writing
Grammar

We’ve kept it small and affordable.

If your tween/teen is struggling to be successful in public school but you do not have the time to homeschool them, we can help with that.

Families will:
--Choose the curriculum (help is available)
-Provide all academic materials
-Choose the days their student will attend
-Collaborate with the teachers to provide consistent support between home and the center

The teacher(s) will:
-Facilitate, support and monitor each students' program
-Communicate with families regarding their students' progress and challenges
-Uphold the expectations, boundaries and schedule of the families
-Maintain a flexible, supportive, low stress environment
