꩜ Welcome to this practice of Chan Gong Rou Quan (Shaolin Soft Fist). 🌿

As a practitioner since 2020, I have found strength in the ability to remain soft, fluid, and refining mental, emotional, and physical motion. Now 42, my practice has evolved from a personal refuge into a dedicated teaching path here in the Philippines. This recording is a glimpse into my own cultivation—a "self-recording" of the dialogue between my body, breath, and spirit.

Chan Gong Rou Quan (禅功柔拳) is often called the "Shaolin Soft Fist." It is a moving meditation that emphasizes "softness within hardness". Unlike the explosive nature of some martial arts, Rou Quan focuses on circular, silk-reeling movements that relax the muscles while strengthening the internal organs and vital energy. It is particularly supportive for practitioners in their 40s and beyond, helping to maintain coordination, balance, and deep relaxation.

Why Practice Rou Quan?
🟨 Internal Strength ꩜ It builds power from the inside out, rather than relying on muscular tension.
🟨 Joint Health ꩜ The fluid, continuous motions act as "oil" for the joints.
🟨 Mental Clarity ꩜ The focus required for the slow transitions creates a profound state of moving meditation.

My teaching practice is rooted in the following background:
· Qi Yoga Life (2020–2023): Completed the Qigong Foundational Course under Sky Yang - focusing on 5 Elements theory and Zhan Zhuang, Lam Style Taichi Foundational.
· Shaolin Temple Europe (2023): Completed the 12-Month Self-Mastery Program under Shi Heng Yi, refining Shaolin internal arts and discipline.
· Mimi Kuo-Deemer (2023): Completed a one-year Teacher Training program, integrating embodiment principles and heart-centered sharing.

🌀 Chan Gong Rou Quan (Soft Fist) is a traditional Shaolin practice of circular, flowing, and continuous movement — cultivating softness that strengthens from within.

Over time, I’ve found the form adjusting to me as much as I adjust to it. When practiced with qigong’s gentler breathing and slower rhythm, it becomes a way to sustain coordination, balance, and vitality.

It’s especially supportive for those in their 40s and beyond, and for martial artists who wish to maintain their skill.

I first learned this form from in 2022 and continue to explore its evolving connection to qigong.

October Sessions and thoughts 🤍

• Butterfly during practice, and other practices before - feels like I am in special company 🦋

• Whether the practice is qigong or taichi or simply breathing - a feeling of coming back to one’s senses, back to one’s body-sense and mind-sense

• Bathing in bits of sun - it’s been a struggle with the steady slog of overcast and moody days… still, lets play with and thrive with these endless storms 😎☂️

• Steady podcasts and audio books reminding me of the humanness we all share (Accepting the Universe with Atesh Atici & Think Like a Monk with Jay Shetty)

To gather and store good vibes this September, we make room by letting go 😄

Speaking of letting go - I lost my voice the first week of the month and did some very quiet classes! Almost there, thankful it is almost back 🤍

The past week has been me learning to let go of control, to soften and to listen. I had to communicate creatively, and really look at things more (because I wasn’t distracted listening to myself speak😄).

Qigong, thankfully, is a practice of listening, seeing the parts of ourselves that may be covered up by our own noise and desire for control.

Through movement we work with softening, centering, aligning. The video here is an example of centering movement:

1. Breath in as the arms slowly raise, following with the gaze.
2. Breath out lower the arms - letting go of tension and noise as you exhale. TIP: Soften from the shoulders as you do this. Soften the hips and knees as you lower the arms.
3. Repeat.

Noticing change, letting the leaves fall naturally…

I lost my voice the other day, taught a qigong class without words yesterday…

Tutored my 8yo without words, typing messages when I needed to, smiling at him practicing his reading because of it… 😁

While part of me hopes it comes back soon (it’s still isn’t back today), another part is curious to see how things will go if it doesn’t come quickly…

Silent retreat in a way 😘
