Citizens flood insurance requirement hurts Monroe County - FIRMKeys The flood insurance requirement for Citizens windstorm policyholders continues to be a hardship for Monroe County residents.

Monroe County BOCC is holding a floodplain management workshop on the newly enacted downstairs enclosure ordinance. The meeting is at the Marathon Government Center at 10 am on April 6 and also on MCTV. Learn more at www.FIRMkeys.org

Citizens policyholders required to purchase flood insurance - FIRMKeys FIRM is working on a number of issues, most notably the new flood insurance requirement for Citizens policyholders, for the upcoming legislative session.

FIRM has been working with Monroe County, the Florida Keys Contractors Association and others to identify contractors who will assist homeowners with completing the cost estimate portion of the application. The application deadline is November 2, 2022.

“Contractor assistance is vital to the success of this program to alleviate future flood risk,” explains Christine Hurley, Executive Director of the Monroe County Land Authority which oversees the program.
