We know this is a lot of information to process, and we recognize that the topics discussed here are incredibly difficult for our students, staff and families.

This image is a snapshot from our June 23, 2026, board report. It shows a list of crowdsourced ideas for budget reductions to address the projected $17 million deficit for the 2027-28 school year. The options, which include increasing class sizes, reducing staff, and eliminating programs such as athletics, fine arts and elementary music lessons, are incredibly painful to consider given their significant impact on students, staff, families and our community. While no final decisions have been made, these figures reflect the gravity of the financial challenge we face.

Since 2022, the district has worked alongside staff and community members to reduce costs, including staffing reductions, budget cuts, program changes, and school closures, to slow the growth of this budget deficit. Despite these difficult measures, the financial pressure on our district continues to intensify due to factors beyond local control.

We know our community expects and deserves a district that offers strong academic outcomes and programs and opportunities that help every student thrive. It is heartbreaking to face a reality in which resources do not keep pace with rising costs and students' needs.

Every day, we see the incredible resilience and talent of our students in classrooms, on stages and on athletic fields. They are the reason we do this work, and they deserve a story defined by more than a budget or a state report card.

No one in our district wants to implement reductions that would diminish opportunities for students. This is why the Board is exploring an operational referendum on November 3. This would allow the community to determine the level of investment in educational experiences for current and future students.

We remain committed to our students and to finding a path forward that preserves the high-quality education our community values.

History came to life in Ms. Bachmann's 10th grade World History class at Reuther. Students participated in a gallery walk to analyze primary sources from Eastern Europe in 1990, using a unique collection of artifacts generously shared by Ms. Bachmann's father from his college trip there that same year.

As students explored letters from Bulgarian citizens, journals, newspaper articles, maps, stamps, photographs, and even authentic pieces of the Berlin Wall, they connected their learning about Cold War-era communist governments to the real experiences of people living through a time of historic change.

The opportunity to examine and even hold these artifacts made history tangible and meaningful. Students were excited to engage directly with primary sources and gain a deeper understanding of life in Eastern Europe during the late 1980s and 1990s. 🌎

Frank Fest was a beautiful celebration of Frank Elementary School's 130th Anniversary and our Celebration of Learning! πŸŽ‰

The school was filled with former teachers, principals and students, along with current staff, students, families, Mayor Bogdala, and many other special guests. It was inspiring to see so many generations of the Frank family come together to celebrate the history, pride and sense of belonging that make Frank special.

We were honored to welcome former Frank principals Gordie Hess and Heather Connolly, along with KUSD Superintendent Dr. Weiss. Their visit is a reminder of the many leaders, educators and community members who have helped shape the school's legacy over the years.

Throughout the event, students proudly showcased their learning, creativity and hard work, sharing their accomplishments with families and guests.

Here's to 130 years of excellence and to the generations of Frank families who continue to make it a special place to learn and grow! πŸ’™πŸ’›

Yesterday, students, staff, families and community supporters came together for Lance Middle School's Walk-a-Thon benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Every three years, Lance students take the lead in selecting a charitable organization through research, presentations and a schoolwide vote. This year, they chose Make-A-Wish, demonstrating their commitment to helping children facing critical illnesses.

Thanks to the generosity and dedication of our school community, they raised an amazing $46,933 to help grant life-changing wishes for children and their families.

This fundraiser reflects Lance's emphasis on student leadership, civic engagement, compassion and service to others. Thank you to everyone who donated, participated, volunteered and supported this effort. πŸ’™ πŸ™Œ πŸ’™
