🇺🇸 Honoring Those Who Have Gone Before Us 🦋

Our JROTC Cadets had the privilege of presenting and retrieving the Colors during the annual AseraCare Butterfly Release, a moving ceremony dedicated to honoring and remembering hospice clients who have passed.

The ceremony brought together families, friends, caregivers, veterans, and members of the community for a special time of reflection and remembrance. As part of the tribute, “Taps” was played by a musician provided by the Kearney High School Band, adding a solemn and meaningful moment to the ceremony.

Our Cadets were also honored to serve alongside the combined Color Guard and Honor Guard of VFW Post #759 and American Legion Post #52. The presence of these veterans, and their continued commitment to honoring others through service, provides an outstanding example for our Cadets.

We are grateful to AseraCare for inviting our JROTC program to participate in this annual salute. Opportunities like this allow our Cadets to experience firsthand the importance of service, respect, remembrance, and community.

It was truly an honor to help pay tribute to the lives and memories of those who have gone before us.

🇺🇸 Starting the season with pride! 🇺🇸

Our Kearney High JROTC Cadets presented the Colors at the first football game of the year as the Bearcats took on the North Platte Bulldogs! 🏈

It was a great display of Bearcat pride as the Kearney High Band played the National Anthem while the Kearney High Choir sang. Also joining us on the field were the Kearney High Cheer Team and the Dance Cats! 🎶📣

We are proud of our Cadets and grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside so many outstanding Kearney High students as we kicked off another football season.

🚔 LEARNING TODAY. LEADING TOMORROW. 🇺🇸

Yesterday, our Year One JROTC Cadets had the opportunity to learn from Officer Arevalo, a Kearney Public School Resource Officer with the Kearney Police Department.

Officer Arevalo shared valuable de-escalation skills and methods, teaching our Cadets practical strategies for staying calm, communicating effectively, and navigating challenging situations.

Experiences like this give our Cadets the opportunity to learn directly from professionals in our community while developing the communication, leadership, and decision-making skills they will carry with them into the future.

A huge THANK YOU to Officer Arevalo for sharing his time, knowledge, and experience with our Cadets! We also appreciate the Kearney Police Department for its continued support of our JROTC program. 👏

Today, some of our Bearcat Battalion Raider Team Cadets volunteered their time to help build an 8-foot wall that will be used for Raider Team training! 💪🐾

These Cadets didn’t just build an obstacle they’ll soon be tackling themselves—they invested their time and effort into making the entire team better. Their hard work, teamwork, and dedication are great examples of what it means to be a Bearcat.

🇺🇸 Starting the 2026–2027 School Year with Honor! 🇺🇸

The Kearney JROTC Bearcat Battalion Color Guard proudly began the new school year by supporting the Nebraska Daughters of the American Revolution at their annual convention.

Our Cadets had the distinct honor of presenting the Colors as the DAR commemorated America’s 250th anniversary. It was a privilege to represent Kearney High School and our community while helping celebrate 250 years of our nation’s history. 🇺🇸

We are proud of our Cadets for demonstrating leadership, professionalism, discipline, and respect as they represented the Bearcat Battalion and Kearney High School!

On 26-30 May 2026, more than 200 JROTC Cadets from Kearney, Omaha, and Boys Town came together for an unforgettable week at the JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge (JCLC) hosted by the Omaha Public Schools JROTC Program at the Nebraska National Guard’s Mead Training Site.

Throughout the week, cadets participated in leadership development, team-building exercises, physical fitness challenges, archery, and hands-on training designed to strengthen confidence, resilience, and teamwork. From tackling obstacles to building lifelong friendships, every Cadet demonstrated commitment, discipline, and leadership.

Congratulations to Cadet Robby Polson, who earned 1st Place in the Archery Competition, and Cadet Chase Rasmussen, who earned 3rd Place in the Best Cadet Challenge Physical Fitness Competition. Their accomplishments reflect the dedication and excellence demonstrated by cadets throughout the week.

This event would not have been possible without the outstanding support of the Nebraska National Guard, as well as the dedicated JROTC instructors and volunteers from the Creighton University Army ROTC program. Their mentorship and expertise helped provide an exceptional leadership experience for all participants.

The week culminated with a visit to the Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum, where cadets had the opportunity to explore aviation, aerospace, and military history while reflecting on the leadership lessons and experiences gained throughout JCLC.

Thank you to the instructors, cadre, and support personnel who invested their time and energy into developing the next generation of leaders.

Our JROTC Cadets were honored to be invited to lead the Shrine Bowl Parade and present the Colors at the Shrine Bowl Game, proudly representing our school and community with professionalism, leadership, and excellence.

The day was made even more special by the accomplishments of two outstanding Cadets. One Cadet represented our school as a player on a Shrine Bowl football team, while another Cadet earned a place in the Shrine Bowl Honor Band, showcasing their musical talent alongside some of the state’s finest student musicians.

We are incredibly proud of all our Cadets who participated and represented our school with distinction. Their dedication, service, and commitment continue to reflect the highest ideals of JROTC.

Tonight marked a major milestone as we hosted our 1st Annual Awards Night honoring the hard work, leadership, dedication, and accomplishments of our cadets.

We are incredibly grateful for the support of our community partners and organizations, including the National Sojourners, Daughters of the American Revolution, Elks Club, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Scottish Rite for recognizing and encouraging our cadets’ excellence.

We were also proud to present our Legacy Awards, recognizing cadets who exemplify scholarship, attendance, leadership, and the continued pursuit of excellence while carrying on the traditions and legacy of our program.

In addition to celebrating this year’s accomplishments, we recognized the outstanding leadership and service of our current Cadet Command Team and proudly announced next year’s Cadet Command Team as they prepare to carry the program forward.

This evening was a celebration of service, commitment, leadership, and the bright future ahead for these outstanding young leaders. Congratulations to all of our award recipients and cadet leaders — your hard work does not go unnoticed.
