Retirement isn’t about having the biggest account balance. 💭
I was honored to share my thoughts with MoneyLion on what retirees really need to feel secure. My answer surprised some people: it’s less about hitting a magic number and more about having low debt and enough flexibility to adjust when life happens.
A few things I always tell clients:

✔️ Start with what you’ll actually spend each month

✔️ Pay off high-interest debt before you retire

✔️ Aim to have your mortgage paid off if you can

✔️ Don’t rely on one income source
Peace of mind comes from options, not just savings.
What’s one thing you’re doing now to prepare for retirement? 👇

So, what’s our vision? A community where people feel valued, supported, and inspired to grow. 🤍

At Booksmarts, we believe the best work happens when people come together, support one another, and build something bigger than themselves.

That’s the kind of community we’re proud to be part of.

If I could sit down with my 25-year-old self, this is what I’d tell her about money. 💛
Some of these I learned the easy way. Most of them I learned the hard way. 😅

My big three:

💡 It IS possible to be debt free.

💡 Always pay yourself first.

💡 There’s no single investment that will make you rich. Slow and steady wins.

Swipe through for all 9 ➡️
Which one do you wish someone had told you sooner? Tell me in the comments 👇 And send this to someone just starting out. Future them will thank you.

Rooted, and still growing. 🌱
Roots are the things that keep me steady: my family, my faith in hard work, and the people who show up for me every day. Growth is everything I’m still learning.
I used to think you had to choose between staying grounded and reaching for more. Turns out the deeper the roots, the higher you can grow.
What’s keeping you rooted this season?

When your friend is named the Entrepreneurial Excellence Distinguished Honoree, you point. And cheer. Loudly.🥳👏🏻

Here is part of what was read about Becki Wright that night:

“This distinguished honoree has built her career by seeing opportunity where others see separation. She recognized that some of the hardest civic challenges are not simply technology problems, but connection problems, and built new ways for leaders and communities to understand one another.”

That is Becki. Her path across politics, technology and entrepreneurship lets her see where systems fail people, and then she builds something better. I could not be prouder to call her my friend.
And a shoutout to my good friend Lucy Andre , honored by Women Tech Council for helping bring the first hydrogen-powered passenger train to the United States. Supporting friends like these is the fun part.

Congratulations to you both.

Prediction markets make betting feel like finance. It’s not.

I wrote about this for Inc. because I keep seeing smart, successful people treat a wager like a trade. The platforms borrow the language of investing, and that makes risky behavior feel more sophisticated than it is.
Here is what I want business owners to know before the next big game or news event:

Gambling winnings are taxable income, no matter the platform or how casual it felt.
Losses can’t fully offset your wins. Win $10,000 and lose $10,000, and you can deduct only $9,000. You still owe tax on $1,000 you no longer have.
Online gamblers generally have about a 4% success rate.
Only 24% of sports bettors report their winnings on their taxes.
Enjoy the game. Just put your money, your attention and your instincts on things that will pay you back.
Instead of the next soccer goal, bet on yourself.

Going over 100 mph has been on my list for as long as I can remember. I’ve just never had the opportunity — until Las Vegas Motor Speedway handed me the keys. 😂
Lap one, I was in my head: what if I don’t brake hard enough, what if I carry too much speed into the turn, what if I blow the line completely. Meanwhile my instructor is yelling SHIFT — SHIFT — FASTER — FASTER — BRAKE, and we’re skidding around the corner.
By the third or fourth lap? I had it. At the end he told me, “I did not think you were going to be as good as you were.” I’ll take it. 🏁
Here’s what I keep thinking about: it was never nerve I was missing, it was the opportunity — and the moment I had it, the skill showed up faster than I expected. I think a lot of women are sitting on capability exactly like that, fully ready, just waiting for someone to hand them the keys.
Don’t wait for that. Go do the thing you’ve always wanted to try. Then turn around and tell the woman behind you she can do it too.
What’s on your list?
