🇳🇪 Niger:
Heavy gunfire and explosions were reported overnight in Niamey, particularly around Diori Hamani International Airport/Base 101 and the area around the Presidential Palace.

Niger's Defence Minister Gen. Salifou Mody said a group of soldiers had broken away from military command, detained fellow soldiers and attacked sensitive locations.

Government forces say they have regained control of key sites, but reports indicate that fighting or resistance around the airport may have continued.

The incident is being described by authorities and international reports as an attempted mutiny/coup, rather than simply an external militant attack.

State television was temporarily taken off the air before resuming broadcasts.

Bottom line: This appears to be a serious internal military uprising against Niger's junta, but there is no indication at this point that the government has been overthrown. The situation in Niamey remains tense.

🇳🇵🇨🇳 Nepal–China/Tibet: Catastrophic flash floods and landslides along the Nepal–Tibet border have now killed at least 160 people—157 in Nepal and 3 in China’s Tibet region. Hundreds remain missing, including foreign tourists.

🇺🇸 Americans are among those missing. Nepalese authorities have reported 47 U.S. tourists among the missing foreign nationals.

The disaster struck after an avalanche/landslide sent a huge surge of water and debris into the Bhote Koshi River, destroying homes, roads, bridges and other infrastructure. Rescue operations are continuing despite difficult terrain and damaged access routes.

⚠️ The situation is still developing, and the casualty figures are expected to change
