“AI isn’t only software—it’s also infrastructure.”
That statement stopped me in my tracks.
When most people think about Artificial Intelligence, they picture ChatGPT, robots, or the latest software breakthrough.
But AI doesn’t exist without the physical world that supports it.
Every data center powering AI needs electricians to wire it, HVAC technicians to keep servers cool, heavy equipment operators to prepare the land, construction workers to build the facilities, truck drivers to move materials, welders to fabricate structures, and countless other skilled professionals to keep everything running.
AI may be the future, but the skilled trades are the foundation.
Yet we’re facing a growing crisis.
By 2030, the United States is projected to have more than 2 million unfilled skilled trade jobs.
And here’s something many people don’t realize…
When someone says “skilled trades,” most immediately think of the “Big Three”:🔌 Electricians🚰 Plumbers❄️ HVAC Technicians
But there are 30+ high-demand skilled trade career pathways that are essential to building and maintaining our communities—from heavy equipment operators and truck drivers to welders, industrial maintenance technicians, solar installers, linemen, machinists, and many more.
At Trade Talent Search (TTS), we’re working to reshape how students discover and pursue careers in the skilled, mechanical, energy, and industrial trades. Our vision is to expose young people to opportunities they may have never considered by connecting career exploration with engaging content, real-world experiences, and meaningful industry partnerships.
This isn’t just about helping students choose a career.
It’s about strengthening America’s workforce, helping employers build their future talent pipeline, and ensuring our communities have the skilled professionals needed to build, maintain, and power the infrastructure of tomorrow.
The future of AI depends on the people who build, power, maintain, and improve the infrastructure behind it.
The future of the skilled trades starts with awareness.
And that’s exactly what we’re building.
