Most endurance athletes are under-fueling on their hardest days and slightly over on their easiest ones.
It's one of the most common patterns we see — and it quietly tanks recovery and performance over time.
The fix isn't a complicated diet overhaul. It's learning to eat for the day you're actually having. Protein and fat stay fairly consistent. Carbs are the lever — and the swings are bigger than most people expect. Think 200g on a rest day, 500g after a long ride.
That's not a mistake, that's the plan.
Food tracking is one of the most effective short-term tools for finding those gaps. Not forever — just long enough to build real, informed intuition about how you're fueling.

Coach Kent is back with the final chapter of his cyclocross series—this time addressing the biggest obstacle between riders and their goals: excuses.
—> Cyclocross is for everyone. It’s one of the most fun, welcoming, and community-driven ways to race bikes.
—> Use what you’ve got. Any bike with knobby tires will get you started—no special gear required.
—> Embrace the struggle. You’ll slip, slide, and maybe suffer a bit, but that’s the beauty of it—you’ll come out stronger every time.

Coach Kent is back with part two of his cyclocross series—breaking down why CX skills training is a secret weapon for any rider looking to level up.
"Cornering, remounts, dismounts, and bike handling in unpredictable conditions… these are the skills that not only make you a better cyclocross racer, but also carry over into gravel, crits, and road events."

Cyclocross skills benefits: build cornering, braking, balance, and confidence that transfer to road, gravel, and MTB. Get faster with better handling.

Coach Kent recently wrote a three-part series aimed at convincing bike racers—no matter their primary discipline—that cyclocross deserves a spot in their training program. Especially if having fun and becoming a more well-rounded rider is part of your long-term goals.
"If you want to improve your ability to handle high-intensity efforts and stay with faster groups, cyclocross is one of the best tools out there. CX gives you a condensed, externally motivated effort—essentially a race simulation that focuses only on the hardest parts of your event, whatever that event may be."

Welcome Asa Black to the Move Up Coaching Team
We’re excited to officially welcome Asa Black as the newest coach at Move Up Endurance Coaching.
Asa’s connection to Move Up goes back to 2017, when he joined our Development Team and began working with our coaching program. From his early days learning the ropes to competing at the highest levels of collegiate and domestic elite racing, it’s been incredible to watch his journey—and now we’re proud to bring things full circle as he joins our coaching staff.
Asa is a seasoned Category 1 road cyclist with over a decade of experience. He started racing at age 12 and has since competed at nearly every level—from collegiate cycling with Lindenwood University and now Milligan University (where he’s pursuing his master’s degree), to racing for the domestic elite squad First Bank Cycling.
His specialty is road and criterium racing, and his coaching style reflects that: power-based training paired with a deep understanding of race craft, tactics, and field positioning. Asa is also uniquely equipped to support collegiate athletes, bringing firsthand experience navigating the structure, strategy, and demands of student-athlete life.
We’re always taking on new athletes for coaching. Reach out today to get connected with a coach and start accelerating toward your goals.

Marcus lined up for his first-ever mountain bike race yesterday at KC Cup — and came away with the win. More importantly, he stepped outside his comfort zone, tried something new, and had a blast doing it. Solid work, Marcus. That’s how you grow.

knocked out his (3) x 20’ intervals on the trail, then kept the legs turning (and the parenting points rolling) with a cooldown spin alongside his daughter. Hitting the daily volume target and sneaking in some quality time—classic two-birds-one-ride move.
Training as a parent has changed how Michael approaches the grind—efficiency is everything, and flexibility is key, especially now with two kids in the mix. The work still gets done, but the strategy looks different than it used to.
If you’re navigating training with a full life outside the sport, coaching can help make it sustainable.

A coach who has already put in those hours can help you avoid common mistakes, refine your approach, and maximize your progress.
Coach Kent has been through this process himself—not just in cycling and running, but now in learning a new language. The lessons of structured training apply across disciplines, and he shared his experience in this article: https://www.moveupcoaching.com/2025/03/04/the-numbers-putting-progress-in-perspective/
