Pictured here is the original Fort Conley, built by Lyda Conley and her sisters in the Wyandot National Burying Ground around 1910.

It inspired the mobile monument, Trespassers Beware! Fort Conley and Wyandot Women Warriors. To protect the cemetery from unwanted intruders, Lyda, Ida, and Helena Conley took turns living in the tiny 6-by-8-foot fort while keeping vigil over their ancestors’ resting place.

The installation includes a three-hour film imagining what life may have been like during their watch. Trespassers Beware! is on view on the front lawn of the Main Library from June 6–July 27. https://www.kckpl.org/posts/trespassers-beware
