📚 At Fit Learning KC, we use RAN—but what exactly is it?

RAN stands for Rapid Automatized Naming. During a RAN task, a learner quickly names familiar letters, numbers, colors, or objects. It may look simple, but it helps us understand how efficiently a learner can recognize information and retrieve the correct word—a skill that supports fluent reading.

RAN gives us valuable information about: 🧠 Processing speed 📖 Automatic retrieval 🗣️ Reading fluency This can be especially helpful when a learner knows the material but still reads slowly, struggles with fluency, or has difficulty getting words out quickly. Starting the week off right with a testimonial like this! 🙌

🌟 Fit Learner of the Week! 🌟

Anna loves earning points, learning to read sight words, and working hard at Fit Learning KC! And she knows exactly what to do with all those hard-earned points: cash them out for LEGO sets! 🧱 Her favorite so far is the Unicorn Cake Delivery set. 🦄🎂

When she’s not busy learning, you can find her relaxing by the pool or riding the WaveRunner at the lake. ☀️🌊 She’s also a fan of The Sandlot and, when it’s time to grab something to eat, McDonald’s is her favorite! 🍟

We love seeing her enthusiasm for learning—and watching all that hard work pay.

🌟 Fit Learner of the Week: Colin! 🌟

Colin says the best part of Fit Learning KC is “learning while earning!” Colin spent this summer banking his points to cash out on One Piece trading cards. And he has plenty to be proud of—and some pretty fun memories, too. His favorite days at the lab were when Coach Christy brought her animals to work!

One thing Colin is especially proud of is his reading. He’s able to read longer books now and, in his words, “I’ve gotten really good at that.” 📚

When he’s not at Fit Learning KC, Colin likes relaxing, watching YouTube, and playing on his PlayStation. He’s also looking forward to heading back to school this year because he knows he’s going to be faster at math!

And he has good reason to feel confident: this summer, Colin moved from the 7th percentile to the 41st percentile on a math computation CBM. 🚀

Way to go, Colin! We love watching your hard work turn into real, measurable progress.

🌟 Fit Learner of the Week: Kai! 🌟

When he's not at Fit Learning KC, Kai enjoys playing games on his tablet, shooting hoops, and helping his dad with projects using their tools. One day, he hopes to become a handyman!

Kai loves going to school because he enjoys learning new things. After spending the summer in our Lil' Fits program, he'll head back to the classroom in just a few short weeks with confidence and momentum. Our Lil' Fits program has helped him build the foundational academic, learning, and classroom-readiness skills that will make his transition back to school smoother. We'd say he's set up for success!

When asked about his favorite part of Fit Learning KC, Kai didn't hesitate—earning prizes and cashing out at the Prize Tower! We love watching him work hard, stay motivated, and celebrate his accomplishments along the way.
