The Alumni Association is proud to announce and celebrate that KWASU has once again demonstrated its strong commitment to academic excellence, having secured full accreditation for all nine (9) undergraduate programmes presented for assessment. This outstanding achievement further confirms KWASU’s growing reputation as a university of quality, integrity and academic advancement.

The accredited programmes include Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, Environmental Health Science, English, Linguistics, Performing Arts, Computer Science and Microbiology.

The KWASU Alumni Association also extends its excitement beyond this accomplishment as we proudly acknowledge the significant progress made by the University in the area of medical education through the achievement of MBBS accreditation for clinical training. This development stands as a major breakthrough that strengthens KWASU’s position as an emerging force in health sciences and medical education in Nigeria.

The Alumni Association heartily commends and gives special recognition to the purposeful leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, whose administration continues to deliver results through strategic planning, academic discipline, institutional reforms and a strong commitment to sustaining quality education. This success is a clear reflection of effective governance, dedication of staff and a management team focused on excellence.

COMMUNIQUÉ ON MY FIRST YEAR IN OFFICE AS NATIONAL PRESIDENT, KWARA STATE UNIVERSITY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

Exactly one year ago, I was entrusted with the responsibility of serving as National President of our great Alumni Association, and today I reflect with gratitude to Allah and a deep sense of fulfillment on the journey so far.

I extend my profound appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Alade Jimoh, the University Management and the Governing Council of Kwara State University for their unwavering support, cooperation and commitment to strengthening alumni–university relations. I am equally grateful to my National Executive Council, our Leaders, Elders, Advisors, Branch Executives and all dedicated members whose sacrifices and collective efforts have made this first year impactful and progressive.

In this past year, our administration focused on sustaining the legacy of former leadership while consolidating and expanding on existing gains. We successfully relaunched the Undergraduate Scholarship Scheme and introduced the maiden Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme, awarding scholarships to over fifty undergraduate students and ten postgraduate students who are alumni of the University across different parts of the country.

We demonstrated our sense of responsibility beyond campus by donating security tools to support our host community in Malete during periods of theft and security breaches. We also hosted the first-ever Alumni Symposium in 2025 for graduating students transitioning into alumni status, an inspiring gathering that brought accomplished alumni back to campus to share their journeys and reinforce the importance of giving back to the University.

Our administration strengthened media visibility and improved engagement across platforms, resulting in a rapid increase in alumni presence and public recognition, including the creation of the “Alumni in the Limelight” initiative to celebrate outstanding members.

We supported the initiation of the University’s E-Transcript Portal and created an Alumni Help Desk to assist members seeking transcripts and other official documentation.

We sincerely appreciate the Vice-Chancellor for enabling our administration to witness increased employment opportunities for qualified alumni within the University, reinforcing the spirit of institutional loyalty and pride. We also celebrate the continuity of alumni representation on the University Council, with myself as the National President representing the Convocation, ensuring that alumni voices remain integral to institutional governance.

Additionally, we sustained the tradition of providing convocation packages to graduands, strengthened chapter structures with Oyo and Osun at implementation stages while reviving Lagos and Abuja chapters, and maintained active engagement with alumni in the diaspora.

The Faculty of Engineering Alumni commendably championed a donation initiative coordinated by the National body, setting a model for faculty-driven contributions, while leadership mentoring initiatives were introduced to guide current undergraduates in preparation for life after graduation.

As we look ahead, our focus for the coming year includes hosting the third edition of our Alumni Reunion, convening the Annual General Meeting, commencing the Alumni Building Project from where the former leadership paused, and launching a structured University Endowment Framework to institutionalize sustainable giving.

I once again express heartfelt appreciation to the University Management, Council Members, and every alumnus and alumna who has supported this administration morally, financially and strategically.

I call on alumni worldwide to remain connected to Kwara State University, support the University administration, engage actively with their chapters and freely reach out to the National body as we continue to build a stronger Association and a greater alma mater.

Look forward as this administration continues to grow stronger and contribute meaningful to the university, our alma mata.

Signed

Yusuf Umar Dansh*tta
