Hey everybody. I need you to pay attention to what just happened at Howard University, because this is bigger than one school.

Over 500 incoming freshmen — kids who worked their whole lives to get to the Mecca — got an email saying they'd been UNENROLLED just days before move-in. Bags packed. Dorm assignments ready. Families driving 14 hours. And then, gone.

The university says they missed a July 10 payment deadline. But here's the part that should make you angry: many of these students say their scholarships, military benefits, and financial aid were already on the way — money that doesn't even post to accounts until August. They did everything right. The system's timeline just didn't care.

This is the lesson I keep teaching: when your future depends on somebody else's clock, you are always one email away from devastation. A scholarship committee that responds too slowly. A financial aid office that doesn't pick up the phone. A deadline that doesn't bend.

Black families cannot keep building dreams on money we don't control. We need savings. We need investments. We need INCOME that flows whether an institution approves of us or not. That's not pessimism — that's protection. That's how you make sure your baby never stands on a sidewalk with packed suitcases wondering what just happened.

Pray for these students. Then get busy building.
