McKinley Elementary School

Today the 5th graders took on the staff in the 2025-2026 Staff vs. 5th Grade Volleyball Game. Everyone put their best effort into the game and had a great time. The kindergarten-4th grades cheered on staff and 5th Grade. Big shoutout to Mr. Hoke for putting it all together.

☀️The 2026 SUN Bucks application is open! SUN Bucks provides a one-time $120 benefit per eligible child to help families pay for groceries during the summer months.

Some children are automatically enrolled in SUN Bucks. Those families should receive a letter soon confirming their enrollment.

If you do not receive an enrollment letter in the next few weeks and believe your child may be eligible based on the guidelines, you will need to apply. Applications for summer 2026 must be received by 5 p.m. on Aug. 31, 2026.

SUN Bucks 2026 benefits should be distributed this summer. We’ll share updates about the distribution timeline as details become available.

Family Advocacy (FA) Days begin tomorrow, Wednesday, February 11, and continue through Thursday.

Please check with your student’s school for specific schedules and details. There will be NO SCHOOL on Thursday AND Friday, February 12 and 13.

To allow the Unified Government of Kansas City, Kansas and Wyandotte County time to treat roadways, KCKPS will operate on Plan A, a two-hour delay, tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27th.

Due to impacts from this weekend’s snowfall, extremely cold wind chill conditions expected tomorrow morning, and ongoing safety concerns for students and staff, Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools will implement Plan D on Monday, January 26. All school campuses and district offices will be closed.

What Plan D means for students and families:
• Students will not report to school
• Morning extracurricular activities are canceled
• Afternoon and evening extracurricular activities will be decided later in the day
• KidZone is canceled

What Plan D means for staff:
• District and building administrators will work remotely
• Certified and classified staff will not report to work
• Staff essential to recovery efforts will be contacted directly by their supervisors
