October is Disability Awareness Month. In my personal life, I have family members who have disabilities. I have a disability that was not diagnosed until I was an adult. Many of my students have disabilities. Many artists throughout history had disabilities, as do some amazing contemporary artists. Let's celebrate their accomplishments, unique perspectives, and the challenges they have overcome.

All classes are off to a great start on their first projects! Eagles are practicing drawing techniques, observational skills, rules of proportion, and continuing to learn procedures for new art media. Fridays are focused on the creative process, providing opportunities for independent exploration and a chance to get caught up on work if needed. Stay tuned for the first projects to be up on Artsonia and hanging in the halls!๐คฉ๐จ๐ผ

We are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with three featured artists from the past - Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, and Jean-Michel Basquiat - and three contemporary artists: Jaime Dominguez, Lourdes Villagomez, and Barbara Rivera. I look forward to seeing what our Eagles create with these masters for inspiration!

Our third week in art focused on teamwork as we practiced 3D paper building techniques, experimented with a variety of media, and made connections in our family group. We were so focused on creating our tree that we forgot to take a selfie (we'll make sure to snap one next month)!

We've brought out the paint in several classes! Even with proper procedures, accidents happen. Crayola offers the best advice on removing stains! Link attached. https://www.crayola.com/support/stain-tips

Eagles continued practicing the creative process by focusing on sharing and providing feedback to their peers. Enjoy your Labor Day weekend!

What an amazing first week in the art room! We started off by reviewing procedures, going on a scavenger hunt for supplies, and working collaboratively to create art based on a theme. We ended our week by learning more about the creative process, focusing on providing feedback and revising our work. Eagles never cease to amaze me with their creativity and willingness to try new ideas. I can't wait to see what they create this year!

Welcome back, Eagles! My name is Jackie Foster and I am the art teacher at EL. ๐จ This is my 7th year at the nest and 22nd year teaching art. My husband and I have five boys and three of them will be joining me as Eagles this year. We are all excited for this new adventure!
As an artist, drawing, painting, jewelry making, leather working, and fiber arts are my favorite media. I love to learn new techniques and am always looking for ways to incorporate them into my art room.
I firmly believe that art is for everyone and that every child is an artist. My goal is to help my students discover a love for creating and to help them build confidence in their abilities as makers.
As we begin this yearโs art journey, I hope your child discovers the joy of creating and a lifelong love for the artistic process. Enjoy following along as I share photos, videos, and announcements from the art room!
