Had a great time making this set for the 307 Women’s Conference at City Park.

Classroom management at this time of year can be difficult. One of my favorites is to put up a tree with lights and as you see friends who are following directions, let them go put an ornament on the tree. It’s magic!!! Everyone will be quiet and listen hoping their name is called next.

The other day in class we were doing a taste testing on apples. Normally, I always have a graphing sheet we fill out to make it “academic”, but, on this day, I took another approach. As we filled out our big chart, the littles began to have a discussion about which color had the same, which had fewer or greater. It changed every time we added an apple. The students were engaged in using vocabulary words we had been learning during math. I realized in that moment that it wasn’t the time to force a worksheet. They were using rich vocabulary that is so important for them to grasp and understand and who was I to stand in the way. Conversations are so important for these little ones. This is how they learn!!

I had someone ask me the other day why I would do thematic play centers in Kindergarten. #1 They learn through play and social interaction. #2 It’s hands on math. One to one correspondence, counting money, following a sequence, etc. #3 They are engaged!!!

Celebrating the fifty pound mark this week! I was so miserable in April when I started this journey. It is worth investing in your health. Yesterday I taught a group of kiddos how to do sit ups. That wouldn’t have happened five months ago.
