Have you ever sensed that yoga is about something more than the physical practice?
Many of us begin practicing yoga for greater flexibility, strength, or pain relief.
But if we stay with the practice long enough, something begins to shift.
We become less focused on achieving the posture and more curious about what we’re experiencing within it.
The moments of stillness. The quiet. The subtle awareness that arises when we simply allow ourselves to be present.
In this clip from my conversation with Sage Rountree | yoga teacher mentor, author of 13 books we discuss Sage’s new book, “Yoga Off the Mat”, and explore how yoga philosophy doesn’t have to feel abstract or reserved for scholars. Instead, it can become a practical guide that helps us better understand ourselves, our teaching, and the deeper purpose of practice.
Perhaps the goal isn’t to chase extraordinary experiences.
Perhaps it’s to create the conditions where presence naturally unfolds.

When does sharing our yoga practice begin to change the practice itself?
As yoga teachers, many of us use social media to educate, inspire, and connect. But have you ever noticed how the presence of a camera can subtly shift the experience - for you or for your students?
Yoga invites us inward. Into presence. Into awareness.
So how do we balance sharing our work with protecting the integrity of the practice?
In a recent episode on the Beyond Yoga Teacher Training Podcast, I explore the tension between visibility and authenticity, the unseen impact of social media on teaching, and why discernment may be one of the most important leadership skills we cultivate as yoga teachers.
This isn’t about criticizing social media or content creation.
It’s about asking better questions.
✨ When does sharing serve the practice?
✨ When does it begin to distract from it?
✨ And how do we remain rooted in what matters most?

I’d love to hear your perspective. Have you ever noticed your own practice or teaching shift when a camera is present?

“SEVA changed more than my teaching—it changed me.”
For years, the SEVA Service Teaching Project has been a foundational layer of my 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training curriculum because I believe teachers develop through experience—not just instruction.
SEVA invites trainees to step into the role of teacher, receive meaningful feedback, refine their skills, embrace imperfection, and discover that teaching is a reciprocal exchange where both teacher and student grow.
This beautiful reflection from one of my graduates captures exactly why this project remains such an essential part of the training.
In serving others, we often discover more of ourselves.
Confidence is cultivated, connection deepens, and teaching begins to emerge from a place of authenticity rather than performance.
This is the heart of yoga. This is the heart of SEVA. 🤍

Yoga Teacher Training is hard to fully describe in words—or capture in photos.
It’s a journey that asks trainees to step into the unknown and, along the way, discover that what they’ve been seeking has been within them all along. ✨
Through practice, skill-building, communication, and learning how to guide and serve others, something meaningful unfolds.
Confidence grows.
Clarity emerges.
And a deeper sense of trust takes root.
What’s created is more than training—it’s a shared experience of growth, vulnerability, and transformation that feels both personal and collective.
These photos offer small glimpses into that journey.
If you feel called to explore yoga more deeply and learn how to share it with others, I would love to walk that path with you.
This fall, I’m offering my Hybrid 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training—a blend of online study and in-person experiential learning. First in-person session begins late August.

“Vulnerability is not a weakness, and the uncertainty, risk, and emotional exposure we face every day are not optional. Our only choice is a question of engagement.”
— Brené Brown, Daring Greatly
This amazing group of women (plus one more not pictured) came together in January, embarking on a journey of discovery, vulnerability, growth, and connection through Yoga Teacher Training.
They chose courage.
They chose to step into the arena.
They chose to show up and allow themselves to be seen.
Over these months, I’ve witnessed strength, transformation, honesty, leadership, and deep support for one another unfold in such beautiful ways.
It has been an honor to guide this journey and be supported alongside two incredible teachers, Meredith & Stephanie and it is our joy to introduce these recent graduates.
This is what it looks like to dare greatly. ✨
Special shoutout to .o.n.e.y.photo for making this weekend so special!
