Thank you Mid-Prairie! I’m excited to serve on your school board and grateful for your trust. I can’t wait to get to know all those in our district more.

Congrats to Jake and Jed on their wins as well! Here’s to 4 years supporting the students, staff, and families that make MP so special 🖤💛

Now — let’s have a great turnout at PT conferences 🙂

It's Election Day! Here's a reintroduction -- grab your friends and go vote for Kirah!

My name is Kirah (like Shakira 💃). I live in Richmond with my husband JJ, our 4 kids, and our dog. I am a licensed Elementary Educator now taking my passion for the classroom to the board room.

🗳️I’d love to have your vote for Mid Prairie School Board this November but first we should probably get better acquainted.

🍎 As a teacher, I took immense pride in making my classroom accessible for students of all backgrounds and abilities as well as consistently communicating with all caregivers. Despite the challenges of teaching through the COVID years, I was awarded the ICCSD Shine Award for the advocacy and attention I gave to my roster.

🏫Beyond my four walls, I collaborated with fellow teachers to advocate for the learning community as a whole — addressing the ICCSD school board for smaller class sizes & better pay/training for paraprofessionals, and organizing a snack drive for our food-insecure students. At the same time, I was also wearing my mom hat in IEP meetings as I sought out the best practices that would help my own neurodivergent kids thrive. I truly understand both sides of the table.

🎤In 2022, I stepped outside of the classroom and turned my attention to behavioral consulting and public speaking. I work with families and school districts to support the diverse needs of their learners. Among others, I have consulted with the two largest home school assistance programs in the state (Mid-Prairie & Marion), offering trainings to better equip their supervising teachers as well as the homeschooling parents.

🛝Aside from this work, my most important work is at home with my kids- though we are rarely actually home. If you don’t see me at the library (Hi Olivia!), the coffee shop (Hi Rhonda!), or the Southtown playground (Hi splash pad!)… well you just might not be looking hard enough 😅

📚What I hope you see in the photos and stories I share is that I really love public schools. I have deep respect for teachers and would love to amplify their voices on the school board.

🔃If this is a candidacy you would support, I’d be so grateful for you to share this post with others in our community and get the word out to vote TODAY (Nov 4, polls close at 8pm). If you have more questions, please ask! I’m an open book.

🦅Let’s work together to ensure Mid Prairie schools embrace all: all students, all staff, and all families.

My husband took this picture of me my first year of teaching. It was mid-October. 7:30pm. And I had fallen dead asleep in the middle of our conversation. Teacher Tired really is something else 😂

This week on top of all the normal hard work - our MP teachers also celebrated 50s day, recognized students at assemblies, prepped for conferences, and today they’ll teaching math in costume to little pumpkins riding a sugar high👻

This weekend they’ll do all that and more for their families, the clocks will change ☠️, and somehow they’ll come back and greet students with a smile on Monday morning.

It’s a great day to send them a thank you email or coffee 🙂 Teachers thank you, we love you, I hope you get a nap soon 💛🖤

A huge thank you to the city of Kalona for organizing this so quickly. Please share this event with your neighbors
