We're in the making a mess phase of beautifying Ora Wah. In order to fix a few leaks and redo the gelcoat, we're taking all the hardware out of the deck. This also involves removing the ceiling panels so we can refill the old holes with epoxy. We're also finding some rotten wood to replace along the way. It's a huge project, but it needs to be done. Can't wait until we're at the kiwi grip phase of this project. ⛵️

I've (Beth) started going through all our Ora Wah photos from over the years in an attempt to make an "elevator conversation" folder. In doing so, I'm seeing how clean her deck was, so white, and how good the wood in the interior looked. That's because she existed as a sailboat, but wasn't used as one.

This old boat has helped us live such an incredible life over the past 3 years, it's no surprise she's looking old in some places. I'm so excited for the work we're going to do on her. She's still got a lot of life in her, and we've only just begun the cruising life. I really hope this time next year she'll be looking as beautiful as we know she can and will function better than she has in a very long time.

Since Ora Wah is in a marina and we need to go between Kemah and Austin a lot, we needed a vehicle. Boat projects means it needed to be able to hold a lot, so we bought a very used Dodge Grand Caravan.

She may have Texas plates, but Beth made sure our home state pride shows through. She also named her Minneheehee, but you can call her Minne in honor of Minnehaha, Kirsten Neuschäfer's boat for the 2022 Golden Globe race.

We had hoped to save the trim on Ora Wah's deck, mainly because removing it will be a lot of work and it looks nice when the wood is good. But, after years, maybe a decade, of it being ignored, our efforts weren't paying off.

So, in order to get rid of bad wood and hopefully stop some leaks, the trim is coming off. Additionally, all the deck hardware is getting removed so the deck can be repaired and repainted

Happy to report it's just me and Dan on Ora Wah again, our unwanted guest from Florida died while we were gone. Thankfully it only took 10 minutes of searching to find the remains. It then took 15 minutes and a hell of a lot of bleach to rid us of any remnants and smell
